Robbery victim found dead in city fire

A man was found dead in the location of the fire that destroyed some P5 million worth of properties at the Spanlace Marketing on Boni Avenue Barangay Plainview, Mandaluyong City over the weekend, police said yesterday.

Firefighters found Dioly Barte, 27, resident of Welfareville Compound, lying on the floor of the guardhouse. Barte succumbed five stab wounds.

Police see an angle of robbery to be the motive for the killing.

The vault containing an undetermined amount of money belonging to Simeon Ong, owner of Spanlace Marketing, was allegedly stolen.

Fire investigators are still determining the cause of the fire.

Fire Officer 2 Marcos J. Cabiso said that the fire started at 1:57 a.m. on the ground floor of the building.

After four hours of battling, the fire was declared under control and was eventually put out at 6:47 a.m.
