The strict implementation of the “No Plate, No Travel” policy has proven effective in curbing and resolving the incidence of high-profile crimes in Metro Manila.
National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Ricardo F. de Leon said that one month after the campaign was launched on March 10, the number of motorists accosted for driving vehicles without license plates has steadily dwindled.
From a high of 343 accosted motorists during the first week-run of the drive, the latest report as of April 11 revealed that there were only two motorists apprehended for not using license plates in their driven vehicles.
Specifically, from March 10 to March 17 there were 343 motorists accosted during the implementation of the policy; from March 18 to March 25, there were 172 motorists apprehended for driving vehicles without license plates; from March 26 to April 3, there were 50 motorists accosted; and from April 4 to April 11, there were only two motorists apprehended in checkpoints and chokepoints manned by joint terms of the NCR Traffic Enforcement Group (TEG) and operatives from the different districts.
A month after the campaign kicked off, some 2,548 traffic violators have been accosted by members of the NCRPO-TEG for various offenses including the use of expired or improvised license plates. Also included in the total were the number of motorists who have been issued warnings and those whose vehicles have been impounded.
