These are the words that best describe Seagate's new external hard drive. Cool because it does not look like a storage device; looks more like a CD player to me. Every time someone comes by my room and sees the drive, their first expression would be "That looks cool!" without even knowing what the thing is in the first place. So when they finally learn that it's a hard drive they're all the more impressed.
And it's so easy to set up and install! I was initially challenged with all the connectors but Seagate designed them to have unique shapes that each connector would only be allowed one way to connect so there would be no room for errors. Just looking at the ends of each connector would tell you what part goes where. As for the installation, the hard drive ran on Windows 98, ME, 2000, and XP. Didn't try it on a Mac, though. Installing it on ME, 2000 and XP was a breeze because it automatically loaded. However, installing it on Win 98 took me some time coz I had to install it from the CD-ROM with the help of the Installation Wizard. It did take a couple of minutes but it was still easy nonetheless.
The hard drive came in a most opportune time. I just finished moving into my new office, my PC included, having been assigned to another section and I had these old files from my previous posting that I need to turn over to my successor. Since these were large pdf files that didn't fit in a disk, I was searching for ways to transfer the files. It would have been easy if I already had the CD writer I requested but I didn't have it yet so I didn't really have any options but to wait until I get it. But even if I didn't pray hard for it, someone up there was looking after me because the Seagate hard drive dropped in front of me like manna from heaven. I just need to move my files to the hard drive, disconnect it from my PC, bring the drive one floor up, install it to my colleague's PC, then transfer the files. A handy dandy hard drive!
I would have lost no time to give the drive a try but He had other things for me. I was set back for three days to attend a character formation workshop before I could lay my hands on this. But it was worth the wait.
The hard drive comes with a backup software - BounceBack Express. Oh, this was easy to install, too. And in two minutes I was done backing up my files. I just love manufacturers who make life easy for users!
Disconnecting it was not as easy as installing it. An error message appeared the first time I turned off the drive warning that the system might crash. Puzzled, I searched for the proper way to turn it off. It took me some time to learn how to turn it off properly because the manual was a bit too general on the instructions on disconnecting the drive. When I was running out of menus to look at, I turned it off again this time to take note of the error message. Still puzzled, I finally turned to where else, but Windows Help. Was I relieved to find the answer. Now I know how to turn it off properly!
