Caloocan City police undergo revamp

The Caloocan City police started yesterday its revamp of officers with Senior Supt. Leo Garra’s assumption to office as its new chief replacing Supt. Nat Castro who was designated as officer-in-charge early this month.

Garra, who was personally recommended by Mayor Recom Echiverri, brings with him a wealth of experience in police work being the former chief of the precharge investigation division of the directorate for investigation and detective management of the PNP at Camp Crame.

A native of Sorsogon province, Garra was also former provincial director of Occidental Mindoro before he was assigned at the PNP headquarters.

Echiverri, together with NPD director Chief Supt. Marcelino Franco, was on hand to witness the turnover and vowed all-out support to the police force. (Willie L. Catapat)

2 car-riding men rob brgy head of cell phone, jewelry

There’s logic behind robbers hitting on banks using fast and most often than not expensive vehicles for a clean get away.

But a recent incident defies reason, as a group of suspects armed with handguns riding on an expensive car took great pains just to get a cell phone and jewelry.

Barangay chairman Cornelio de los Reyes, of Malate, Manila told investigators of the Western Police District (WPD) that he was talking on his mobile phone when two suspects armed with handguns on board a red Nissan Exalta stopped right in front of him.

The suspects flashed their handguns and ordered him to hand over to them his cell phone and jewelry.

The duo then fled on board their vehicle with their “measly” loot. (Rizal S. Obanil)

Police investigators probe colleague’s slaying

Police investigators are now probing the slaying of a colleague, who was shot dead last Sunday in Tondo, Manila.

The victim was identified as SPO4 Eduardo Chiapoco, assigned at the Western Police District (WPD) District Tactical Operations Center (DTOC).

Investigators described the suspect to be in his early 20s, with white complexion, of medium build, 5’2” tall and clad in a dirtywhite undershirt and short pants.

WPD reports revealed that the incident happened at 10:10 a.m. Sunday at the corner of E. Rodriguez and Pacheco Sts. in Tondo.

Ricardo Cabrera, carenderia owner, told investigators that Chiapoco was walking along the said street after buying some newspapers from a store when a man followed him and then pumped a bullet in his head. (RSO)

Pasay City mayor orders payment of telephone bills

Pasay City Mayor Wenceslao “Peewee” Trinidad yesterday ordered the immediate preparation of the voucher for the payment of the telephone bills the city owed the Philippine Long Distance and Telephone Company (PLDT). Telephone lines at the city hall have been cut-off by the firm about two weeks ago.

The chief of General Services Office (GSO), Cynthia Potian, when interviewed, said that city administrator Atty. Ernestina Bernabe-Carvajal gave her the order to help in preparing the vouchers for the outstanding debt of the city government to the PLDT amounting to more than P6 million.

Potian said that she immediately requested a copy of their outstanding debt from the PLDT.

The chief of the GSO said that the actual debt of the city government to the services of the PLDT reaches only to P5.6 million based on the reconciliation and computation they made.

Potian vowed to finish the preparation of vouchers within two days before she could pass it to the office of the city budget officer, Lita Cayanan and then to the office of Pagkalinawan. (Jean Fernando)
