Unique beauty pageant takes a close look at plump women
In Mandaluyong City

A 35-year-old teacher aide, who weighs 178 pounds and endowed with a hefty 43-39-43½ vital statistics, beat 19 other pleasantly plump candidates who vied for the title of Bilbiling Mandaluyong 2004 held last Friday at the city gymnasium.

Mrs. Cecilia Flores-Noche of 388 J. Rizal St., Barangay Namayan is this year’s Bilbiling Mandaluyong. The other beauties bestowed with runner-up titles were Mrs. Clarisa Bongon-Balabag, Ms. Jhoana Roxas, Mrs. Beverly Dacaymat-Torres and Mrs. Agnes Muje-Valenzuela.

The unique pageant, now in its fourth year, treated spectators to a night of laughter and excitement right at the opening number as the participants danced to the tune of ‘Sumusunod sa galaw.’ The plump beauties later walked on stage on long gown, showed off their talents and revealed their wits during the question and answer portion.

Bilbiling Mandaluyong is one of the highlights of the 18th anniversary celebration of Kababaihan Kakaiba ng Mandaluyong (KKM) headed by Mrs. Menchie Abalos, wife of Mandaluyong City Representative Benhur Abalos.

For his part, Rep. Abalos, as he has been doing the past years, gave his all-out support to the project, consistent with his commitment to advance causes that promote women development and gender liberation.

"KKM has always been a venue for projects geared towards woman empowerment and this unique pageant is our way of saluting women who are actually assets in our communities," said Mrs. Abalos.
