According to the combined reports of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA), MMPC sold a total of 1,009 units of commercial vehicles composed of Adventure, L300, Space Gear, L200 pickup, Outlander and Pajero SUVs and Canter light trucks in the month of June.
This took 21.5 percent market share in the total commercial vehicle category.
Toyota only sold a total of 956 units of commercial vehicles in June, but it still was market leader in total overall sales with 2,302 units for a 30.9 percent market share due to its strong passenger car sales performance.
MMPC reported that sales of its commercial vehicles improved by 33 percent compared to figures in May. Mitsubishi attributes this growth to the improved availability of units especially for its newly introduced Adventure models. Also, the overall positive outlook after the national elections, which made purchase decisions easier for buyers contributed to the overall sales growth.
MMPC Assistant Vice President for Marketing Services, Froilan Dytianquin said: "We foresee the sales trend to improve further during the second half of the year, as market will be awakened by consumer-related promos which will make vehicles more affordable, at the same time new model introductions from various assemblers which will likely happen in the second half."
MMPC also reported that its passenger car sales, primarily composed of the new 2004 Lancer, improved by 24 percent compared to sales figures in May. Mitsubishi sold a total of 143 units of passenger cars, composed of 137 Lancers, five Galants and one Lancer Evolution model. The sales performance in June garnered Mitsubishi a 5.3 percent market share which puts them in fourth position, next to General Motors (5.8 percent market share), Honda (21 percent market share) and Toyota (49.5 percent market share).
Both Toyota and Honda are dominating the passenger car segment because of the availability of small passenger cars such as the Vios and City, respectively.
Meanwhile, MMPC was able to keep its No.2 position in overall sales for the first half of 2004 with total sales of 5,938 units, representing 14.1 percent market share.
Toyota Motors Philippines led the industry, with 14,595 units for a 34.7 percent market share.
Honda is in close third with a total of 5,746 units for a 13.7 percent market share.
