9TH FLORCULTURE CONGRESS. The Floriculture Industry of Davao, Inc. will host the 9th Floriculture Congress in Davao City on August 19 to 20 in collaboration with the Federation of Cutflower and Ornamental Plant Growers of the Philippines headed by Sally Leuenberger.
Dr. Maripaz Perez, assistant secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, will discuss "Essential Business Discipline for Sustainable Development and Globalization on the first day. This will be followed by a talk on corporate farming, particularly production of young plants for export, by Wilhelm Ortaliz; and on product consolidation from small and medium- scale growers by Alma Uy of Ace Flowers of Tagum City.
On the second day, Prof. Cecilio P. Costales of UP-Mindanao will talk on the development framework of the Philippine ornamental industry – opportunities and problems. This will be followed by an open forum on recent trends in integrated pest management in ornamental crops by Dr. Teodora A. Dizon of the Institute of Plant Breeding, UP Los Baños.
Another open forum will follow, particularly on new ornamental crops with export potential. Other open forums will center on the supply chain and marketing communication; the Wildlife Act and the commercialization of indigenous plants; recent R&D results in ornamental plants; and organic fertilizer production development & environmental exonomics.

POS MIDYEAR SHOW. The Philippine Orchid Society will hold its Midyear Orchid & Garden Show from August 27 to September 6 at the Orchidarium Park, in front of Quezon City Hall.
