Dynamite blast kills man, injures his son

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — A man was killed and his son was seriously wounded when the dynamites they were drying under the sun suddenly exploded yesterday in barangay Caubian, this city.

Police identified the fatality as Gerbacio Naparete,  60, of Buenavista town, Bohol. His son, Gerardo, suffered injuries in the different parts of the body.

Initial investigation conducted by  Lapu-Lapu City homicide chief investigator Geoffrey  Baguio showed that Gerbacio and his son were about to deliver the dynamite to a contact in barangay Caubian when they decided to expose the explosives under the  sun because it got wet while they were travelling from Bohol on board a banca.

The dynamite suddenly exploded, killing  Gerbacio on the spot, police said. His son was thrown  off several meters away but he survived.

Meanwhile in Danao City, an 18-year-old pregnant woman was  killed when a speeding bus rammed the tricycle she  was riding in on the national road in sitio Taytay,  barangay Poblacion.

The victim, Charito Singson, was thrown off the  vehicle after the speeding Rough Rider bus hit the  rear of the tricycle. Singson had  occupied the backseat of the tricycle driven by one  Dionayde Pisadoro, 30. The bus with plate number  GVL-623 was driven by Joel de los Reyes.

Police said the Cebu City-bound bus tried to  overtake the tricycle just as soon as another bus  loomed from the opposite direction.
