UE fetes its alumni among newly elected officials

   

The University of the East, in cooperation with the UE Alumni Association, Inc. and the UE Law Alumni Association, Inc., feted 20 UE alumni, who are among the country’s newly elected government officials through a testimonial dinner held on July 28, 2004, at the Maynila Ballroom of the Manila Hotel.

Leading the honorees was Vice President Manuel "Noli" L. De Castro, Jr., the former Senator and former television host who is a graduate of the University’s College of Business Administration in the Manila Campus (CBA Manila, BSBA 1971).

Likewise honored was Senator Alfredo S. Lim, the former Manila Mayor, former Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government, and former Director of the National Bureau of Investigation, who is an alumnus of two UE Colleges: CBA Manila (BSBA 1951) and the College of Law (LLB 1963).

Nine congressmen were among those honored. Six of the congressmen-honorees are College of Law alumni (in alphabetical order): Cong. Harlin C. Abayon (LLB 1973) of the 1st District of Samar, Cong. Hussin U. Amin (LLB 1978) of the 1st District of Sulu, Cong. Roseller L. Barinaga (LLB 1962) of the 2nd District of Zamboanga Del Norte, Cong. Douglas Ra. Cagas (LLB 1967) of the 1st District of Davao Del Sur, Cong. Antonio H. Cerilles (LLB 1972) of the 2nd District of Zamboanga DelSur and Cong. Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo (LLB 1986) of the Lone District of Camiguin.

The three other congressmen- honorees were Cong. Del R. De Guzman of the Lone District of Marikina City, who is a graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences-Manila (CAS Manila, AB 1982); Cong. Catalino V. Figueroa of the 2nd District of Western Samar, who is a CBA Manila alumnus (BBA 1960); and Cong. Pedro M. Pancho of the 2nd District of Bulacan, a CBA Manila alumnus (BBA 1957).

Nine new governors were honored as well: Gov. Aurora E. Cerilles (CBA Manila, BBA 1970) of Zamboanga Del Sur, Gov. Raul A. Daza (CBA Manila, BBA 1961) of Northern Samar, Gov. Ben P. Evardone (CBA Manila, BBA 1984) of Eastern Samar, Gov. Vicente S. Gato (CBA Manila, BBA 1966) of Batanes, Gov. Raul R. Lee (College of Law, LLB 1965) of Sorsogon, Gov. Erineo
S. Maliksi (CAS Manila, AB 1969) of Cavite, Gov. Pedro P. Romualdo (College of Law, LLB 1965) of Camiguin, Gov. Armando C. Sanchez (College of Engineering, BSME 1977) and Gov. Vicente
P. Valera (College of Law, LLB 1975) of Abra.

Present to fete these honorable UE alumni were top management and academic and administrative officials of the University, led by chairman and chief executive offi cer P. O. Domingo and President and chief academic officer Baltazar N. Endriga.
