Spanish choir performs in benefit concert

The choir will be in Manila for “Voces para Baseco,” a benefit concert for the malnourished children of Baseco, which they will be promoting at the mall.

A joint partnership of La Aldea, a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Spain, the main performance will take place at St. Scholastica’s College on Aug. 5 and at San Agustin Church on Aug. 6.

Proceeds of the project will be used to rehabilitate previously identified malnourished children through supplementary feeding and intensified nutrition education.

The Ars Nova Choir was founded in Plasencia, Spain in 1990 under the direction of D. Jose Neria. Since then, it has had numerous concerts, some of them in honor of the Royal Family of Spain.

The choir represented the city of Plasencia during the Universal Exhibit or Expo 92 in Sevilla, Spain. It was also a main performer in several concerts promoted by the European Academy “Yutse.”

Professor Fernando Pizarro Garcia-Polo, who was born in a family with a strong musical tradition, directs Ars Nova.

He finished music education and art at the University of Extremadura, and is currently a music professor in the Escuela Hogar since 1996.

Ars Nova is composed of Matilde Diaz Cordero, Ma. Luisa Encinar Lamelas, and Margarita Rodriguez Garcia, sopranos; and Vicente Clemente Sanchez, Jose Antonio Gomez Hernandez, Alejandro Nemesio Rodriguez Garcia, and Eugenio Mateos Gonzales, tenors.

Other members include Ma. Jose Neria Manglano, Carmelo Gonzales Neria, and Ma. Jose Gonzales Neria, altos; and Jesus Muñoz Villanueva, Miguel Olalia cerro, and Jose Luis Trancon Grao, basses.
