I’ve had a good week considering it’s still midweek at the time of this writing. In fact it’s even better than a good week; I had a week of blessings.
Previously I ended my column with an invitation from you, our treasured readers, to share some thoughts and tips on how to teach the concept of networks in the absence of an existing one. And quite frankly, I must admit I wasn’t expecting any soul to bother answering my question.
But I had a most pleasant surprise when I got two responses, and was even more surprised when I eventually read the contents, which I hope to publish here soon.
I couldn’t thank them enough for taking time to respond and for making a difference; something we Pinoys need to work on. And of course for reading Manila Bulletin online. Now I know we have an international readership.
Another source of blessing totally unrelated to my previous column but had to do with my job and with my writing was an email I got from a colleague, Jed Saed, whose passion for information science I share. He has been a source of ideas to write about on those times when I hadn’t any.
And as it is with blessings, we are supposed to share it so others will be blessed as well. Inspired by the earlier emails, I was able to help a friend who lives in Australia accomplish an essay she needed as a pre-employment requirement.
So what have I learned from all these? That writing is such a powerful medium; that writing for a newspaper makes it all the more powerful; and that we who are blessed with some amount of talent and opportunity to write for a newspaper should use this medium to uplift people’s lives and make a difference.
And last but certainly not the least, thank God for the Internet, without which none of these would have been possible.

Jed sent this news item from BBC about a public toilet made of glass that’s a one-way mirror. The loo is located just outside an art gallery in Britain and it looks more like a cube of mirrors rather than a toilet.
Although this is not the first time one-way mirrors have been used in toilets, the MMDA can use the idea since some sectors of our society abhor the pink urinals along EDSA saying these are eyesores. I think they’d rather see men peeing on walls rather than inside the urinals.
Should BF consider adopting the design, it will be a totally new experience for us. Imagine relieving yourself in the comfort of the toilet while enjoying the view in EDSA, smoke belchers and all. And since it’s made of glass, they can do away with the pink color, although the glass could be a source of glare that could lead to road accidents.
Oh well, at least there’s an alternative for those pink urinals.
