Juliana Palermo’s secrets

If Diana Zubiri, clad in a two-piece outfit, stopped traffic before at the flyover on top of Ortigas Ave., get ready then for Juliana Palermo’s primetime stopping powers as she reveals much more of herself in the soon-to-be-aired “Secrets!”

The adult-oriented talk show is in line with ABC 5’s slogan of “Iba Tayo!” Scheduled to air on Aug. 17 (it will air every Tuesday and Thursday henceforth), the show will have the actress discussing with her guests from all walks of life - actors, doctors, musicians, etcetera -  adult issues like sex and relationships. What’s very provocative here is that the set of “Secret” is somehow a re-creation of the set of Juliana’s claim to fame movie – “ www.XXX.com,” a Tikoy Aguiluz film wherein she plays a cyber-stripper or sex diva.

Juliana, in her interviews with her guests, will sport a night gown or her favorite lingerie. Guests, for those willing, will also be asked to wear their sexiest bed time clothing since  “Secrets”  forum will always happen on Juliana’s bed.

An added attraction too of “Secrets” are the animations injected on each episodes for humor or to just to lighten up the sizzling discussions going on. And aside from sensitive issues to be discussed, Juliana will also answer or advise some lucky callers about their personal problems. It can be remembered that Juliana Palermo was once a sex-advice columnist for our local FHM.

According to the executive producer of “Secrets,” Annabelle Maano,  the show was conceptualized  sometime ago with Juliana Palermo already in their minds. Their aim was to produce an adult-oriented show that is not vulgar. At the same time, Juliana fitted in because of her spontaneity, her bubbly personality and openness to various subject matters especially that she is only 19 years old.
“I like to be myself. Parang it is different since we tackle issues that  are not usually talked about in TV shows,” she remarked as to why she accepted ABC 5’s offer. “It is an honor to be part of this show. Hindi siya typical na talk show.”

According to her, before the taping, they would only give her the subject and questions needed to be asked. From then on, everything would depend on the way she would carry her conversations with her guests.

For example in the first of the two episodes she shot, her first guests were comedian and storeowner Gary Lising and Patricia Javier, they were in a bath tub and they talked about sex toys.

While in the second show, she had  Hot Babe Andrea del Rosario talking about her sad plight with the Internet (where a naked picture that looked so much like her was circulated), and sexy star Stella L. She also had Dr. Cristina Gates to share clinical explanations on cybersex and cyberporn.
This is not necessarily a controversial talk show. “It so happened that sex is not an issue that people normally talk about; and it’s been my dream to be able to explore anything. Now I’m learning more about myself. I never thought I could be a host,” Juliana explained.

Openness is an important aspect as to why “Secrets”is not far from succeeding as an adult-oriented talk show. Juliana  is not claiming to be an expert on sex. But she stresses that she is always open to learn anything.

“I’m very liberated and open to basically anything. I’m a very open–minded person. Kahit anong pag-usapan natin kahit hindi ko alam, I’ll try to learn just to have a conversation about that person, but I’m not an expert. I just feel like I’m more vocal about certain things so maybe that’s why people call me an ‘expert’ or a ‘sex goddess.’”

At the moment, Juliana commutes weekly from Bohol to Manila or vice versa. She is always in Manila every Monday and Tuesday for the taping of “Secrets” and the rest of the week she often spends in Bohol because aside from “Secrets,” she is also the female lead star of Cesar Montano in his self-directed and produced period movie entitled “Panaghoy sa Suba,” a possible entry to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival.

Juliana expressed that compared to the first time she started working in the film project of Cesar Montano, she now values the movie more!

“For me it was just work and money in the beginning. Now that I’m learning more about the film and getting to know Cesar better, it is really fun to work with him and the rest. I value them a lot more as I learn more about this project. I was surprised that he got me because wala akong alam sa history ng mga films niya or sa background ng projects niya. I’m just honored that I’m a part of this movie.”

In this 1940s movie, Juliana plays a young and beautiful lass. During the Japanese occupancy of the Philippines, she was courted by  a Japanese soldier (portrayed by Jackie Woo) and when the Americans came, she was again courted by an American (John Smith). More than the war, it is also  about love triangles and murders because of love.

“Well, I hope I win another award from this film,” smiled Juliana who  has three more weeks or more to work in Bohol.

So what secrets can Juliana reveal?

“I’m still conservative. There’s still this side of me that goes to church every Sunday and I always thank God for giving me a chance in life. There are still  limits to what I can do. In my free time hindi naman ako palaging sexy magdamit so in some ways, conservative pa rin ako.”
