‘17th Aliw Awards’ names the best

   

Two of the music industry’s best singers who were proclaimed Entertainers of the Year last year, Lea Salonga and Ogie Alcasid, will host the “17th Annual Aliw Awards” at the Philippine Plaza Hotel, tonight at 7:30.

Produced by Ultimate Productions and directed by Ronnie Henares, the event will have more than a hundred performers, 32 musical and non–musical groups, and 10 theater production companies to compete in 18 categories. 

Among the finalists of the Best Performer in Hotel, Music Lounges and Bars are:

Male – Nyoy Volante, Jimmy Bondoc, Paolo Santos and Jed Maddela   
Female – Ana Fegi, Nina, Yamani, Kyla, Aliya Parcs, Bituin Escalante, Geneva Cruz

Aside from handing out trophies to deserving performers, the Aliw Awards has also launched its annual welfare fund to help the country’s old and sick performers.
Every summer, Aliw Awards conducts workshops for children from depressed areas who dream of becoming big stars someday.
