Six heavily armed men reportedly clad in police uniforms barged inside two branches of the Metro Bank in Quezon City and Navotas yesterday.
From the Metro Bank branch along Timog Ave., the suspects escaped carrying with them depositors in going to another Metro Bank branch on Honorio Lopez St., Navotas where they barged in, held up and hogtied the withdrawers and two security guards.
Police said the suspects armed with M-16 armalite rifle, hand guns, and M-203 reportedly first entered inside the Metro Bank-Timog branch and reportedly abducted bank depositors Emilio Cano and Ricardo Rodriguez who at the time were withdrawing cash from the bank’s ATM booth. (Ed Mahilum)
Life term for drug pusher
A Caloocan City regional trial court (RTC) judge sentenced yesterday to life imprisonment a 35-year-old man two years after he was arrested for drug pushing.
In a decision, Judge Myrna Dimaranan Vidal of Caloocan City RTC Branch 127 also ordered the accused Rosauro Genova, of CVB Barracks, Tala, Caloocan City to pay a fine of P500,000.
Judge Vidal likewise sentenced him to another 17 years imprisonment and a fine of P300,000 for drug possession. (Willie L. Catapat)
Pa, son charred to death
A father and his 8-year-old son were charred to death when they were trapped inside their burning house in Pasig City the other day.
Hector Boy Ponce and son Nestor of 517 Nagsabla St., Brgy. Kalawaan Pasig City died on the spot.
Fire Officer 1 (FO1) Salvador Norberte, arson investigator, said the fire which started at around 12:15 a.m. gutted the Ponce residence which brought an estimated damage to property in the amount of P100,000.

Protest at Tanza landfill
The fisherfolk group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) had given Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Elisea Gozun a week to dismantle the controversial garbage disposal facility in Barangay Tanza, Navotas, Metro Manila.
This developed after the militant group and the Obando People’s Alliance Against Dumpsite yesterday staged a picket at the landfill site in Barangay Tanza timing their protest with the ongoing water sampling conducted by the department. (Joel C. Atencio)
1 dies, 4 hurt in collision
A 36-year-old electrician was pinned to death while four other jeepney passengers were injured when the two vehicles they were riding collided with one another last Tuesday.
Rowie Demaisip, married, driver of Liwasang Kalawaan Marikina City died on the spot after he was pinned by his own vehicle when it turned turtle.

Man hurt, car damaged
A 34-year-old man was injured the other day while an automobile was badly damaged after a Meralco lamppost gave in at the boundary of Caloocan and Valenzuela cities.
Witnesses said the lamppost, located at the Appleville Tullahan Road, Caloocan City, initially tilted until it finally gave in hitting Alexander Frivaldo who was then onboard his bicycle.
A Nissan Sentra car, reportedly owned by Police Officer 1 Romelo de Belen of the Western Police District, parked alongside the post was also hit and caught fire. (Willie L. Catapat)
Stabbed dead
A factory worker was stabbed dead by an unidentified assailant Wednesday night in Muntinlupa City.
Muntinlupa police officer-in-charge Supt. Joselito Fernandez identified the fatality as Joel Racadio, a resident of Citio Tuklas, Barangay Cupang, Muntinlupa City. He suffered multiple stab wounds in the body and died upon arrival at the Ospital ng Muntinlupa. (James I. Catapusan)
