Another event to look forward to is the first MTV Style Awards. Presented by MTV Philippines, it is slated on Sept. 28 at The NBC Tent at The Fort. The event will bring together the country’s coolest and classiest personalities for a night of funk and fashion. To be honored by the country’s favorite music channel are the country’s purveyors of standout style in the worlds of fashion, music, movies, television, business, sports and politics in an ultrachic event.
During the recent launch of the MTV Style Awards hosted by KC Montero and Sarah Meier and some others (at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at Greenbelt 3), Chris Lopez, marketing director of MTV Philippines, said “Through the years, we’ve seen how music greatly influences one’s clothing and lifestyle. Since its birth, MTV has been in the center of this influence. There’s a certain style associated with MTV. Looking back at Madonna, Michael Jackson and MC Hammer during their glory days, they all stood out with their unique sense of style. With MTV Style Awards, we aim to recognize particularly here in the Philippines the style movers and shakers of this generation.”
Awards will be given out in eight people’s choice categories and 12 jury categories. Here are the nominees for the people’s choice awards.

In addition to the people’s choice categories, the MTV Style Council, an exclusive committee of top fashion, editors, journalists, stylists, designers, photographers and models assisted by MTV,will decide on the jury awards.

Aliw Awards aired on RPN 9 tonight
The 17th Aliw Awards, held recently at the Westin Philippine Plaza Hotel and which bestowed on internationally acclaimed Lea Salonga the “Entertainer of the Year” award, will be aired tonight at 9 on RPN 9. Lea, together with Ogie Alcasid, hosted the star-studded event.
Lea, here to do “Baby the Musical” which is being staged at the Meralco Theater, has been a multi-awarded Aliw Best Child Performer. For this year’s “Entertainer of the Year” award, she won over contenders Gary Valenciano, a two-time “Entertainer of the Year” awardee, Ogie Alcasid, last year’s “Entertainer of the Year,” Regine Velasquez, Ai Ai de las Alas and Willie Nepomuceno, all Aliw awardees in the past.
Some of the Aliw awardees were Ai Ai and Willie Nep, Best Stand-Up Comedy Act (Female/Male), Sarah Geronimo and Jay-R, Most Promising Entertainer (Female/Male), Nina and Nyoy Volante, Best Performer in Hotels, Music Lounges and Bars (Female/Male), Karel Marquez and Eric Santos, Best New Artists (Female/Male).

ABS-CBN stars add glitter to Kadayawan
Not only is ABS-CBN giving extensive coverage to Davao’s 19th Kadayawan Festival; it is also sending some of its stars to grace the colorful event. Excited to play their roles in the grand coverage are Angel Aquino, Vhong Navarro, Danilo Barrios, Juddha Paolo, and Alex Santos and Aladdin Bacolodan of “TV Patrol” are set to host Studio 23’s own program for the festival today (Aug. 21) from 9-11 a.m.
