St. Luke’s Medical Center, Institute for Neurosciences Neurodevelopmental Center, presents the 1st Post-Graduate course on "Helping the child with language and learning problems: A team approach" on Aug. 28, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the 14th Floor Auditorium, Cathedral Heights Buildings Complex.
Open to clinicians, therapists, educators and parents, the course will tackle two of the most common reasons for child evaluation. The first session is entitled "Why is my child not talking yet?" while the second session is "Why can’t my child read?"
From the initial assessment to the rationale for the interventions and accommodations the child and family will face, the course offers a comprehensive exchange of ideas from well-known practitioners.
The first session (9-11 a.m.) will be moderated by Dr. Antonio Remolino. Topics to be covered are "Neurodevelopmental evaluation" to be delivered by Dr. Ermenilda L. Avendano; "Speech and language evaluation" to be delivered by Dr. Ermelida L. Avendano; "Speech and language evaluation" – Mary Antoniette Baleva-Calma; "OT evaluation in relation to language development" – Natasha Q. Palanca; "Addressing behavioral issues" – Jennifer G. Soriano; "Developing communication skills" – Mary Antoniette Baleva-Calma; and "School and home intervention" – Cecile S. Sicam.
The first session will be followed by a lunch symposium on "Healing through music to be delivered by Genesis C. Rivera and moderated by Dr. Christine Conducto.
The second session (1-4 p.m.) will be moderated by Dr. Lourdes K. Ledesma. Topics to be covered are "Neaurodevelopmental evaluation;" "Child psychiatry evaluation;" "Neuropsychological assessment;" "Speech-language evaluation;" "Reading evaluation;" "Learning to read;" "Impact of language on reading;" and "Addressing socio-emotional concerns."
