Cebu fails in Guinness bid

CEBU CTY — By merely 300 meters, Cebu lost to Turkey  in its bid to be recorded in the Guinness Book as the “longest  barbecue grill.”  The event, that brought thousands of Cebuanos and  visitors to Cebu City during a cookout called,  “Sugbayanihan: Pistahan ng Sugba sa Sinulog,” formed a  series of barbecue grills that spanned 1.3 kilometers. Turkey, however, surpassed Cebu’s record by putting  together barbecue grills that reached 1.6 kilometers,  beating its own record of a 630-meter-long barbecue  grill during a 1999 cook-out in Peru. Organizers of the Sugbayanihan, however, are not  totally disheartened by the failed attempt to make it  to the book of records, saying what matters most is  that the event showcased the camaraderie and rapport of the Cebuanos.
