State of heightened alert to be imposed
IN BRGY MAHARLIKA VILLAGE

The Taguig Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) and the Municipal Disaster Coordinating Council (MDCC) convened yesterday and in a joint resolution said they will recommend to the Sangguniang Bayan to place Brgy. Maharlika Village under a state of heightened alert.

The move was initiated for the local government and the Taguig police to wage an all-out war against criminality in Brgy. Maharlika following the rise in criminal activities and the spate of killings that have occurred here.

Checkpoints will be set up in all entry and exit points to and from Maharlika towards adjacent barangays such as Signal Village, Upper Bicutan, and Lower Bicutan.

A composite team composed of the Taguig Security Force, Public Order and Safety Office and elements of Taguig Police’s Intelligence Group, Mobile Patrol and Police Community Precincts will man these checkpoints for the inspection of both passersby and vehicles.

"Increased economic opportunities go hand in hand with an improved peace and order situation that is why there is a need to take action on the rising criminality in Brgy. Maharlika. The place used to be fairly peaceful but problems started to escalate with the influx of migrants from other cities in Metro Manila," Mayor Freddie R. Tiñga said.

In an emergency meeting, MPOC and MDCC led by Mayor Tiñga agreed that although much has been done to curb criminality in Brgy. Maharlika, the local government and police have to take stronger measures to clamp down on the proliferation of illegal firearms and drugs in the area.

"Taguig is relatively peaceful and the rise in criminality in Maharlika Village is an isolated case in terms of the peace and order situation in our town," municipal administrator Wilfredo Villar said.

"As we make a stand against crime, we will also turn Maharlika into a trade and tourism center with the earmarking of a P30-million development project fund from the Official Development Assistance Absorption," Tiñga said.

These peace and order efforts have already been coordinated with the Maharlika Village Homeowners Association and the barangay.
