Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr., in a move to effectively fight criminality, has directed the local police to adopt fresh strategies to “effectively meet the challenges of peace and order in the city.”
"We need to develop our own software to be able to address all forms of criminality, particularly street crimes,’’ he said, at the recent Executive Staff meeting at the QC Hall Bulwagan.
Belmonte told conferees that street crimes prey on helpless ordinary people.
He pointed out that text messaging is an effective method in fighting criminality.
The QC executive said billboards bearing cellular phone numbers the public could call or text in seeking for immediate police help will be put up shortly in strategic places within the former Philippine capital.
Also, the mayor urged the Central Police District (CPD) officials to coordinate with the city government in identifying sites for additional police stations.
The Manila Bulletin gathered that proposals for the putting up of additional police stations were sought by residents at Barangay Batasan Hills, Fairview and Baler.
New CPD Director Sr./Supt. Nicasio Radovan identified the crime-prone areas in the city —Barangays Commonwealth, Batasan Hills, Unang Sigaw, Banawe, Pinyahan, Culiat, Novaliches and Tandang Sora were shooting, stabbing and robbery cases were reportedly high.
Carnapping, according to Radovan, is prevalent in Araneta Center in Cubao, Tandang Sora and Paang Bundok.
