The Mild Seven Renault Formula One team will bring to the Philippines F1 superstar Fernando Alonso along with two cars – the actual R23 and the R24 prototype – for the “Circuit Rush” party at Play Underground in Powerplant Mall, Rockwell on Oct. 2.
Fernando Alonso is the number one driver for the Mild Seven Renault Team. He will be swinging into Manila during the two-week break between the Chinese and Japanese Grand Prix (GPs).
Also in Manila for "Circuit Rush" are the R23 race car that powered Mild Seven Renault to five podium finishes including a victory in Hungary in the 2003; and a prototype of the R24 which is half the size of the race car currently being used for the 2004 season.
"For the past three years, we have received tremendous feedback from our audiences who got the rare chance to get up close to a real F1 car. This year, we have decided to bring in the R23 and also the R24 prototype in order to give F1 fans a sneak peak into actual racing and also the research and development process behind the scenes," said Dick Sucgang, marketing director for Mild Seven.
The R24 prototype is a precise one-half scale of the real vehicle that was used in wind tunnel tests by Mild Seven Renault engineers at the Enstone, England in order to streamline the aerodynamic performance of the actual R24 being driven by Alonso throughout this season.
Mild Seven Renault, which operates its wind tunnel 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is acknowledged to have one of the most outstanding aerodynamic testing programs in the sport of F1.
The wind tunnel is a tool used to reproduce the environment of a Formula 1 car as accurately as possible. It occupies a whole building in the research facilities of Mild Seven Renault. Airflow from a giant 5.1-meter diameter, 3,000 hp fan located on the ground floor and pulsed into a long tunnel, through two right-angle turns and past filters.
To simulate the race conditions where cars slice through the air at over 240 kmh, there is a sudden reduction in the wind tunnel section just upstream of the area where all the work takes place. Here, the prototype of R23 is placed on a rolling road reproducing the abrasive effects of a race track.
Race aficionados can find out more about Alonso, the rising star of F1, and the technical details of F1 racing at "Circuit Rush." The event begins at 7 p.m. and is open to persons 18 years old and above only.
