As the Philippine government continues to pursue for the additional Value Added Tax (VAT) on all basic needs, most sectors in society are appealing to Malacañang to totally "scrap" the proposal. But President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said that it is needed to improve the economy.

Rosales adds voice to protests against anti-poor taxes
Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales yesterday expressed his sentiment against any form of taxation, particularly if it’s going to prejudice the poor.

More patience needed,

Gawad Kalinga Foundation joins the government in a program to rebuild Luzon communities ravaged by recent typhoons. Through Kalinga Luzon, they will build 40,000 homes by end of 2006.
