For celebrities, their love misfortunes are magnified ten-fold because they are "public property" after all. It’s painful to be heartbroken. Just imagine how much more the celebrities have to endure when the world watches like a hawk, waiting for everygritty detail of that pain to explode on television.
For a Valentine irony, we asked stars what their most unforgettable heartbreaking experience was and found it a little too difficult for most of them to answer the question. Most of them said "pass ako dyan," and "ibang question na lang," probably because their visions of heartaches involve another showbiz personality or the pain is as fresh as the day it happened. We could only surmise.
Anyway, below are the few "braver" ones, who managed to respond and were open enough to let us in their painful past:
Dingdong Dantes, actor/TV host: Everytime I don’t have a date for Valentine’s Day. Just like last year… and this coming Monday.
Pops Fernandez, actress/singer: The answer to that was given already.
Chynna Ortaleza, actress/TV host: I’ve only had few relationships. The first one was not heartbreaking because it was for the better. The second one was Railey. Siguro it was hard when people were forcing us to break up because we were not ready and we still loved each other. That was painful. Siguro ‘yun lang yung maco-consider ko kasi wala namang sobrang sakit pang nangyayari.
Keempee de Leon, actor/singer: I think it was in the early ’90s pa. I won’t mention the name. She’s an actress also. Parang everything went too fast naging kayo, then after a while next thing you know nawala na. I admit it’s my fault also. I have been too possessive. And then probably she got fed up already. She just left me.
Ogie Alcasid, comedian/composer/singer: My first break-up when I was still in high school. I remember I was just 14 years old then and imagine my then-girlfriend, my first, broke up with me over the phone. That was so hurting I thought it was already the end of the world.
Erik Santos, singer: It’s my break-up with a girlfriend of 3 years. I was still in college then.
Cristine Reyes, actress: It was when hindi nagwork out ‘yung relationship ko with Danilo. It was my fault. Doon ako sobrang nanghinayang. Two months akong galit sa mundo and I even tried to hurt myself.
Bettina Carlos, actress: I don’t want to think about the painful things in the past anymore. What’s more important is I’ve learned from what I have experienced and I’m completely happy now with what I have, with what I am, and with who I am.
Juliana Palermo, actress/TV host: When I realized that everything in my life had to be changed—literally.
Jessica Rodriguez, actress/talent manager: When I lost the real love of my life 20 years ago...my mother...It was the most heartbreaking thing in my life. It was really, really painful. Though, I didn’t know that many years after, God replaced her with the blessing of having my husband David (Bunevacz) and three wonderful kids.
Erik Matti, film director: There was this beautiful girl back in school which all of us in our barkada had crush on. Ang tagal kong naging crush ‘yon! Naging barkada namin siya at niligawan although parang nagkakatuwaan lang kami noon. What can you expect, nobody among us was able to hear her "yes." Later she went to Florida to work as a nurse and life continued here. I became a director and got married. Then one day, she went back for a visit and called me up, asking if I’d like to go out. So siyempre, sabi ko di na ako makaka-excuse kay misis. Nagulat siya upon learning that I’m already married. I gave a college friend’s number and she probably called him up. After a few days, I found out they were already lovers. They even ended up marrying each other. You know this feeling of not having the kind of opportunity that that guy had! It was just strange thinking that she’s my long–time crush na ilang araw lang napasagot ng ibang guy at ako pa ang nagbigay ng number niya. Maybe when I was still in love with the girl, I wasn’t able to say enough my true feelings; and I lost her forever because of that. This experience went on to become my inspiration in doing the movie "Sa Huling Paghihintay" which starred Rica Perlejo and Bernard Palanca.
RJ Ledesma, TV host: There was a time when I broke up with a girlfriend. We’ve been steady for three years already but I was thinking I needed space, or that was what I thought. It just hit me when I found out na naghahanap siya ng boyfriend at nag-ka boyfriend na nga siya eventually. I was really, really devastated that only a month after they were officially together, nagpunta sila sa Boracay. It was one of the most heartbreaking experience for me because in all those three years with my ex-girlfriend, we never went out of town
Siguro off sa kanila. Kasi kapag ganun din ‘yung guy sa’kin, I get turned off din.
Mike Tan, Starstruck Batch 2 Finalist: Naku po, never pa po akong nagkaka-girlfriend, kaya wala po akong masasabing most heartbreaking love experience.
