Elected were Alicia Rita Morales-Arroyo, Conrado Bate, Vivian Yuchengco, Robert Coyiuto Jr., William Ang, Francisco Villaroman, Alejandro Yu, Jose Luis Javier, Peter Favila, Cornelio Peralta, Bernardino Abes, Annabelle Chua, Frederick de Vera, Robert Atendido, and Francis Lim.
The results of the elections was released after a delay of more than three hours after doubts were raised on the accuracy of the results of the computer system provided by Mega Data Corporation and votes had to be counted manually.
Megadata marketing officer Jose Avedillo said the problem started when there were last minute withdrawals by some candidates at 8 a.m. which required them to delete these names from the list in the computer.
However doubts were raised after the second batch of voters used the bank of nine computers to cast their votes. It turned out that one computer continued to reflect the names of candidates who have already withdrawn their bids.
Because of this, Megadata, the auditors and the PSE nominations and elections committee decided to use the hard copy ballots generated by the computer system as back up.
Candidates Eddie Gobing, Mar-garita Locsin, and Myron Timothy Papa withdrew their candidacies just before voting was supposed to start while Paul Wee, Filomeno Francisco, Lorenzo Tan and Wilfred Son Keng Po had backed out earlier.
Of the winners, Coyiuto led among broker directors with 13.64 million votes, the highest number of votes garnered by a director in PSE history.
Coyiuto represents large brokers together with Arroyo, Yuchengco, Ang and Bate while Yu and Villaroman represents small brokers. Javier, Favila and Peralta are independent non-broker directors while Atendido represents other non-broker market participants.
Representing investors are Abes for the Government Service Insurance System, Chua for Philippine Long Distance and Telephone Company, and De Vera for San Miguel Corporation. Lim was elected to the board as a requisite of his being the bourse’s professional president.
