Where is Aiza Seguerra going?

Contrary to reports of Aiza Seguerra leaving the country for good to live with her girlfriend abroad, the 21-year-old singer–actress does not feel she’s going anywhere, well, except at Naughty Strings where she performs every week.

Aiza did not look bewildered at all when she was asked if she’s really quitting showbiz for good. Her reaction was actually unexpected, far from the preconceived notion of reporters who’ve become self-proclaimed experts in concocting the most juicy of show biz news.

Before becoming one of today’s major singers whose soothing voice is always a pleasure to listen to, Aiza Seguerra was a child in everyone’s eyes. Eversince she became a mainstay in "Eat Bulaga" at age three (immediately following her stint in "Little Miss Philippines"), Aiza Seguerra has endeared herself not only to her colleagues in the show but most especially to its avid viewers.

Having practically grown up before the eyes of "Eat Bulaga’s" regular studio and TV audience, whispers of Aiza’s leaving the country in favor of a quiet life with her non–showbiz girlfriend left everyone confused.

"I don’t know who started the news at kung paano but if ever I’m going to leave the country for good, I’m going to tell everyone. Hindi ako basta aalis na lang," Aiza said last Tuesday at the backstage of "Superkids, Superfriends, Superheroes," a benefit concert staged at the RCBC Theater in Makati City. Sponsored by the SM Foundation, Pfizer and Unilever, the concert’s proceeds will benefit indigent deaf children by training them to speak and communicate properly so that their physical impairment will not hinder them from living a normal life.

In the meantime, Aiza talks freely about her passion for performing not only for her avid fans but also for the needy and she stresses that although to live abroad is an option for her, Aiza stresses that it’s not something that she’s planning for the time being.

Here below, Aiza Seguerra reveals what still keeps her in this country.

What are you busy with these days?

Not much. Guestings in TV shows and performances at Naughty Strings in Tomas Morato.

If you’re not busy on stage, what are you most likely to be doing?

I’m basically a homebody. Tamad kasi ako maligo at mag-aayos, I think that’s one reason why I don’t like going out. I also like eating out.

Hasn’t growing up in the limelight taught you to be vain?

I’m never vain. I just don’t like my hair messy but I’m not so conscious about my overall appearance. Mahilig lang ako sa sapatos talaga kasi yun tumatagal talaga sa’yo unlike clothes. I don’t buy branded clothes kasi ang mahal. When I’m not singing in front of an audience I’m not a celebrity so why should I fix up myself?

Aren’t you concerned of what people will say when they see you off cam?

When I’m not performing I’m just an ordinary person like everybody else. I started young in the business kaya nasanay na ako na maraming tao sa paligid ko. I don’t want to be bound by their rules because there’s a bigger world out there that I wish to discover when I’m not on stage.

Growing up in showbiz, was there anything in your childhood that you wish you could bring back because you regret not having done it before?

None, I had a very normal childhood even though I entered showbiz very young. At that time I just had more responsibilities than other kids my age because I was working pero nagagawa ko naman ang mga gusto ko nung bata pa ako.

Since you came out with ‘Pagdating Ng Panahon,’ you have been identified with love songs in acoustic arrangement, is this your brand of music?

Honestly, I don’t know how to define my own music. Ayoko nalalagay sa acoustic but some people don’t understand that. They want me to stick to just one sound kasi dun nila ako gusto but I want my music to grow.

What kind of music do you want to be identified with?

I don’t want my music to be labeled. I love ballads and alternatives. I could even sing rock like those Alanis Morisette’s.

Isn’t the guitar an instrument associated with acoustic music?

Others are tagged as acoustic singers because they always perform with a guitar. In my case, I sing with a guitar because I could easily express myself with this instrument. But I admit that I’m a frustrated pianist, percussionist, violinist. I want to try so many other instruments.

Where do you see your career and music headed to?

Honestly, my career and music are two different things. Yung career yung pagkanta ko in front of people, trabaho talaga. My music is something wherein I can grow so much more. Walang kinalaman sa work ang music because even if I’m not a celebrity now I’d still be singing in bars.

Do you have a goal for your career and music, respectively?

Wala akong gaanong goal sa career ko. All I want to do is sing, for my music to get better, to learn more instruments. Yun lang gusto ko. Pero kahit ganito ang views ko, I like what I’m doing. I like to make people happy with my performance.

So you’re not leaving the country at all?

I’m leaving in August because I’m doing a show in the US.

Are you taking your girlfriend with you?

She’ll accompany me but we have no plans of staying there for good. It’s just a one-month show.

Is there anything that you wish to tell those who are spreading the news that you are leaving for good?

None, what’s the point? You know, people will still write what they want to write and say what they want. If I talk, they will just find ways to twist what I said hanggang sa iba na ang kalalabasan.

Is your girlfriend affected, in any way, by the rumor?

My partner is a non–showbiz person who belongs to a very private family that’s why as much as possible I keep her away from intrigues. Ako na lang ang pag-usapan, ‘wag lang siya.

Do you have movies in the offing?

I want to be given a good project someday. I’m a great fan of movies that encourage people to dare to dream. I’m not much of a fan of sci–fi movies, except "Star Wars." I prefer real actors over computer generated characters kasi mas nararamdaman ko ang story pag totoong tao ang napapanood ko.

What can people who’ve followed you all throughout your career expect from you?

I don’t want them to expect anything from me. I don’t want to say that I have plans of leaving and I don’t want to say I’m never leaving. But they’ll know. I’ll let them know if ever I do.
