How today’s men may stay in tiptop shape and experience quality of life in their "golden years" will be highlighted by the Philippine Society for the Study of the Aging Male Foundation, Inc. (PhiSSAM), during its 4th Annual Convention on April 1, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Garden Ballroom, EDSA Shangri-La Hotel.
Prior to the convention, a lay forum is slated at the Megatrade Hall B1, 5th Level, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City on March 31 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
With the theme, "Advancing Men’s Health," the lectures will include relevant topics such as andropause, urinary continence/incontinence, gallbladder disease, frailty, erectile dysfunction, mood and depression, use of anti-oxidants and testosterone replacement therapy.
The meeting will be highlighted by an interactive discussion by the audience with a panel of experts on actual clinical cases in order to emphasize the practical aspects of the management of aging male.
PhiSSAM is keen on educating Filipinos about healthy aging and rewards thereof. At its helm is Dr. Jose Albert C. Reyes III, a respected urologic surgeon.
PhiSSAM, an affiliate of the ISSAM (International Society for the Study of the Aging Male), is a multidisciplinary society composed of specialists from the fields of urology, endocrinology, rheumatology, orthopedics, gynecology, psychiatry, and family medicine. It aims to help promote healthy aging and seeks to provide awareness of men’s health concerns and problems to both physicians and the lay public.
Studies around the world demostrate that men, in particular, do not only have lower life expectancy rate than women, but also suffer higher risks from injury and most illness.
Males undergo age-related changes all their life. However, increasing chronological age need not mean increasing health woes, with the right lifestyle and medical interventions.
