Fajardo reelected billiards prexy

ERNESTO FAJARDO was reelected unopposed last Friday as president of the country’s national billiards federation.

Fajardo was unanimously elected during the Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines (BCSP) held at the Philippine Columbian Club in Manila. He won widespread support for his efforts to widen club membership among all stakeholders of the billiards community and industry, and his many years of dedicated leadership of the association.

The meeting also elected a new board of directors and other officers for BCSP for the year. Elected to the board of directors were Fajardo, Aristeo "Putch" Puyat, Yen Makabenta, Arturo Ilagan and Willie Caballes.

Upon its constitution, the new BCSP board elected the following as the association’s officers for 2005-2006: Ernesto Fajardo, president; Yen Makabenta, chairman; Arturo Ilagan, secretary-general: Johanna Y. Dee, treasurer and Romeo "Boy" Togonon, public relations officer.

"I thank all club members for their enthusiastic participation for the first time of noted billiards players, patrons and aficionados in club affairs," Fajardo said.

Noteworthy in the BCSP election was the entry of Puyat, long regarded as the godfather of Philippine billiards, into the association as member and director.

Others who have become new members as a result of Fajardo’s campaign for the widening of the premier billiards association’s membership: Efren "Bata" Reyes, the country’s greatest pool player; Sebastian Chua, business magnate of Star Paper and owner of Star Billiards Center; Mahar Managahas of Social Weather Stations (SWS) and UP; Tony Baranda, well-known crisis manager and public relations consultant; Makabenta, veteran newspaper editor, columnist and communications executive; Joanna Y. Dee, Bankard executive officer and national women’s billiards team player; Togonon, print media creative/production director and editorial cartoonist; Julius Nidea, businessman and billiards patron; Jonathan Sy, businessman and billiards patron from Negros Occidental and Jimmy Chongco, noted billiards referee.

Fajardo and newly-elected chair Makabenta said after the elections and membership meeting they will meet the sports media to report on the progress of preparations for the SEA Games and the ambitious program of the BCSP this year.
