Musings of a Sick Woman

Yes, I’m sick. I’m sick of waiting for my pox to clear out. I’m sick of taking 800mg of anti-viral medication because 15 minutes after my world begins to spin and I’m knocked unconscious for the next two hours or so.

Too bad for me that I got chicken pox late in life thanks to my son so here I am confined at home with nothing much to do.

I would have wanted to celebrate as this column has just closed another year and am looking forward to the third one but I guess it has to wait.

Lest I miss the opportunity, thank you for reading Opening Page, thank you for reading TechNews, thank you for reading Manila Bulletin, and thank you for trusting me with your gadgets.

If there’s one thing I like about this job is that I get to meet people in the industry from whom I learn a lot.  A lot of things that would take me days to read from books or from articles or I may never get to learn at all.  Not to mention all those gadgets I get to review.  I always look forward to the challenges of discovering what’s beautiful with a cellphone or a camera or whatever it is I’m reviewing and finding out if it’s simple enough to be used by an average human being.

But I hate the pressure of a deadline, of coming up with something from nothing in so short a time that I often get this wave of relief one I get a column done.  And I only have to thank God for getting me through each week, and of course there’s the men in my life who inspire me – my husband and two sons – just in case you’re wondering.

In the two weeks that I’ve stayed at home I’ve realized a lot of things foremost of which are: that I’m paying my house help a lot for sitting around most of the time; that cable TV shows apart from the cartoons are boring; that my cable provider is terrible; and that I’m glad I have two DVD players because when one cannot read a disk, the other one can and my day is saved.  And with the amount of movies I’ve seen I can do movie reviews on the side already.

Penitence may have come early for me but I don’t care coz Jesus suffered a lot more for me, for us.  And I’m certainly looking forward to my Easter when finally all my scabs will have disappeared and I’ll be a new me!

And to keep me company during my isolation, my editor was good enough to give me cellphone units to review and keep me company.

Have a holy week people and God bless you all! And stay away from any virus.
