Called mp3blue, it's stylish and elegant. Rosner, the German clothing manufacturer, has teamed up with Infineon Technologies to create a multimedia, lifestyle jacket for men.
mp3blue is fitted with functions like Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity and an MP3 player. The electronics are an integral part of the clothing. Touch-sensitive buttons are located on the sleeve.
Conducting strips of fabric - not noticeable to the wearer - are sewn into the garment, linking a compact electronic module with a fabric keypad on the left sleeve as well as the headphones in the collar plus an integrated microphone. The module contains an MP3 player with 128 MB of memory, a Bluetooth gateway linked to a mobile phone and a rechargeable battery that provides eight hours of service.
When the technologically hip, fashion-conscious man wants to phone, the jackets turns into a wireless headset; music from the MP3 player is automatically put on pause when a call comes in. Initially, the number of jackets premiered at the CeBit was only 600 worldwide - sales began with the opening of CeBIT 2005.
No cables but plenty of storage
One of the innovations featured at CeBIT 2005 is a cable-free mobile hard disk, an extremely convenient solution with impressive storage capacity. The unit has its own battery that guarantees many hours operation without recharging. This wireless technology means the device needs no cable connections. The hard disk can run with all functions in plug-and-play mode on any Windows computer.
High-quality home cinema
Forget normal TV - the new home cinema solutions come in the form of multimedia centers offering the perfect film experience with outstanding visual and sound quality. This is an all-in-one solution that combines VCD, DVD and Div-X player with web browser, Internet radio and digital camera linkup. The system supports all popular formats and can be connected easily to the PC, screens of all kinds or stereo systems using a LAN or cable-free connection.
Radio hits at the touch of a button
Up till now recording the latest hits off the radio has always been spoiled by ad breaks and DJs talking over the music. However, the makers of an MP3 docking station have found a way of overcoming these obstacles and recording the top 40 off the radio without these interruptions. The station allows the MP3 player to be connected directly to the radio via USB. A filter ensures that none of the talking between the tracks is converted into MP3 format. The device features one-touch recording.
Three-dimensional images without special glasses
An exhibitor at CeBIT 2005 claims to have greatly enhanced the quality of its stereo images and will be unveiling its new generation of high-quality 3D displays. The viewer now has a much larger area to move around in without losing the 3D impression. The device has a screen diagonal of 20 inches and a native resolution of 1,600 x 1,200 pixels.
The display can of course be connected to any standard PC. Besides its high resolution and brightness, benefits also include support for almost all 3D software. Special 3D glasses are not required.
Secure customer communication
How do you ensure a secure connection for sending customers the latest information and maintaining fast contacts with business partners? The answer lies in a tiny storage unit that can be connected to the computer USB port and sets up a secure point-to-point Internet link to computers in the companies concerned. The storage unit comes complete with software, browser, e-mail client and various security functions, e.g. password protection, and is easily installed in the computer. When this PC is connected to the web, the Flash drive transmits all the information the company wants to send to the user over a secure channel.
Flash drive is a real virus killer
Computer viruses are not only extremely annoying; they can also be a real danger to sensitive data. Users who do not update their anti-virus programs regularly may encounter serious problems. This is where a new USB Flash drive shown at CeBIT 2005 comes to the rescue. It features anti-virus software and can be connected to the PC via a USB port. It then starts to scan the device for viruses automatically. The Flash drive locates the viruses, removes them and is updated automatically on an ongoing basis. It can also be used as a conventional storage unit. Its capacity ranges from 64 MB to 4 GB.
High-quality phone and Flash drive in one
A Flash drive on show at CeBIT 2005 functions as both a storage medium and an Internet telephone thanks to its integrated Voice over IP application. According to the manufacturer, the sound quality is just as good as that of a regular telephone. Cheaper VoIP phone connections also considerably reduce costs for users. The Flash drive can of course also be used as a regular storage unit (capacity between 64 MB and 4 GB).
Digital slide show with soundtrack
With the new digital picture frame, photos can now be viewed as a mobile slide show - anytime, anywhere. This MP3 player, on show at CeBIT 2005, features an LCD screen in the form of a picture frame. You can also add a soundtrack to accompany the slide show. The player supports all popular image and music formats. It can play up to ten hours of music or run a three-hour slideshow before needing a top-up of mains power. A Flash memory solution with a capacity of 128 MB supports the built-in 16 MB memory.
New standard for add-ins
The Personal Computer Memory Card International Association, a cross-company organization, has developed a new technical standard to be used in future by manufacturers of computer plug-ins. This standard is designed to be faster and cheaper than its predecessors. According to the PCMCIA, the standard works well with both mobile and desktop systems. The developers intend it to replace Cardbus and become the preferred solution for users of add-ins.
TV at 150 km/h
Welcome to the wonderful world of TV on the freeway! Show last week at CeBIT 2005 is a digital in-car TV receiver that can receive up to 200 channels on the move (for passengers only, of course). Up till now, the speed of the vehicle has always affected the reception - not so with this new device. This box ensures good reception at speeds of up to 150 km/h, according to the manufacturer. An automatic search function makes tuning the channels very straightforward. The receiver also features an electronic program guide and convenient teletext functions.
Data killer destroys hot discs
Important data burned on discs does not belong in the household refuse. This is a job for the data killer, a device that shreds used discs. The unit has two moving metal rollers that destroy both surfaces of the medium at the same time so that data can no longer be read. The data killer can be used on CDs, VCDs and RVDs up to a diameter of 120 mm.
The shaft capacity is 165 discs and the processing speed 15 discs a minute. When combined with an autoloading unit, fully automated operation is possible.
Superfast DVD with mega memory
This 16x DVD+/-R allows large quantities of data, particularly multimedia data, to be reliably stored on a medium and archived. It supports fast writing and has a capacity of 4.7 GB. Two hours of video can be written to DVD in six minutes. The manufacturer is particularly keen to stress its durability and robustness. The error rates during writing are extremely low.
Digital notepad recognizes handwriting
Handwritten notes, sketches and drawings made while on the move can now be transferred directly to the computer with a new digital notepad.
There's no need for a PC or special paper either. The notepad looks like any conventional pad. It is fitted with paper that can be written on with a special pen. The notepad immediately saves these hand drawings or handwritten notes in digital form. The results can then be edited on the computer, e-mailed and reproduced. This digital pad is designed to be held easily in one hand.
Secure, long-term archiving of data
Pharmaceutical companies, insurers or companies in the chemical industry often encounter problems with storing huge quantities of data for long periods of time. To facilitate this, a CeBIT exhibitor has designed a storage medium that fulfils these requirements. According to the manufacturer, this technology guarantees total archive security, even if the data is not required and not accessed for a very long time.
The information is guaranteed to remain unchanged for as long as 50 years. The storage capacity is 30 GB.
