HIGH-FLYING BEACH volley action resumes today as the Visayas and Mindanao elimination legs of the Nestea Beach Volley 2005 begin at the sand courts of La Salle Greenhills.
A total of 40 teams from various colleges and universities in the Visayas and Mindanao will see action from April 5 to 7 for the right to compete in the semifinal and championship rounds in Boracay slated on May 5 to 7.
Visayas will be represented by defending men’s champion University of San Jose-Recoletos, defending women’s champion Southwestern University, Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion, Foundation University, Iloilo Doctors College, St. Paul Business School, University of Cebu, University of Iloilo, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, University of San Agustin, University of San Carlos, University of St. La Salle, University of Southern Philippines and University of Visayas.
Flying the flag for Mindanao are teams from Ateneo de Davao University, Davao Doctors College, Holy Cross of Davao College, Maharlika Institute of Technology, Mindanao State University, Misamis University, University of Mindanao-Davao, University of Mindanao-Tagum, Western Mindanao State University and Xavier University.
Last week, the Luzon eliminations drew to a close. The men’s and women’s teams of College of St. Benilde and Far Eastern University as well as the men’s team of Adamson University and St. Francis of Assisi College and the women’s teams of Philippine Christian University-Manila and University of Baguio all posted impressive victories to book their semifinal slots in Boracay.
Champion teams get
R100,000 each and R50,000 worth of sports equipment to the school they represent. Second placers get R50,000 and a trophy and third placers receive R25,000 and a trophy.
