Oracle Phils. assures support for local PeopleSoft customers

Local customers of PeopleSoft and JD Edwards are assured of technical support by Oracle Philippines following the recent integration of PeopleSoft applications into Oracle, the leading database vendor.

Yashi Kant, Oracle Philippines country manager said that support-related activities are extended to users of PeopleSoft and JD Edwards applications in Philippines.

"The acquisition of PeopleSoft has help us build a critical mass of 50,000 people including 13,000 developers and 23,000 applications customers worldwide," said Kant.

Oracle Philippines has expanded its channel program with recent appointment of two partners in Cebu and two others in Manila.

Kant said Oracle would focus on addressing the requirements of both the small business and large enterprises by providing a common platform for integration of different systems, thus, bringing down the total cost of ownership.

His priority is growing the Oracle’s software application business by going after the SAP market particularly the financial and commercial sectors.

Oracle has recently closed several accounts in the small business sector aside from sustaining its leadership in the enterprise market.

Some of the new clients in the SME sector include Odyssey Records and Video, Max’s Fried Chicken, Glee Electronics, and Davao Light and Power Company.

Kant said that Oracle’s strength in the enterprise solution can bring equal benefits to small businesses.

"By enhancing the capabilities of SMEs, we are able to help them improve their overall performance and contribute further to economic stability and growth."

Odyssey Records and Video, the country’s largest retailer of music and video products and accessories has deployed Oracle’s ebusiness suite to help the company manage its inventory more efficiently.

Max’s Fried Chicken acquired Oracle’s financials and manufacturing solutions.

Davao Light and Power deployed Oracle’s e-business suite, accounting to financial reports and procure to pay business flows including the modules on general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets, purchasing, inventory and costing.

The modules have also been integrated with Davao Light’s core systems like billing and collection and standard work management systems.

"CEOs and entrepreneurs make decisions based on the amount, timing and quality of information made available to them through a reliable IT infrastructure. Throughout the entire business process, Oracle is there to provide that vital IT framework," said Kant.

Oracle has also expanded its Oracle University call center in Manila to service US-base clients in addition to the existing customers in Asia.

The expansion of call center enhances Oracle’s capability to service clients on a broader scale. "It is another proof of the confidence of global companies in the Philippines. Oracle believes the potential of the Philippines and the world-class skills of Filipinos," said Kant.

Oracle also reported that its Asia Pacific operations posted a 13 percent increase in revenues to $425 million in the third quarter ending February 2005 compared to the same period in 2004.

The Asia Pacific region accounted for 14 percent of Oracle’s total revenues worldwide and 20 percent of new license revenues.

New license revenues for Oracle applications and technology in Asia Pacific grew by 21 percent and 8 percent, respectively, compared to the same period in 2004.

In a statement, Oracle Asia Pacific executive vice president Derek Williams noted that Oracle’s strong performance in the third quarter was the result of clear focus in three key areas achieving significant growth in applications, increasing traction in key industries, and driving sustained momentum in technology business.

Oracle became the largest enterprise software company in the world following the acquisition of PeopleSoft and Retek.

More than half of Oracle’s clients in the Asia Pacific region are small and medium-sized enterprises. Medium-sized companies have 100 to 499 employees.

To address their requirements, Oracle has a network of more than 1,500 partners across the region and generates over 80 percent of its revenues in the Asia Pacific.
