The Black Party

Black is the night and so was the party at The Embassy Club in Fort Bonifacio when Samsung Electronic Philippines, Inc. unveiled its latest innovation in mobile phones—the Samsung D500.

Clad in chic black outfits, the guests kept pouring in past the registration time, as one would say — fashionably late but nonetheless in the mood to party with Samsung.

Few things indeed are worth waiting for and Samsung had good reason to keep its guests in waiting anticipation.

After all, this was no ordinary product… rather, a breakthrough in the mobile phone industry. In fact, the phone was awarded "Best Mobile Handset" of 2005 by the GSM Association Awards.

The Black Party had all the ingredients for a night of F- U-N — good food, refillable drinks, casino games (would you believe!), music courtesy of the Brown Beat All Stars band and of course, lovely ladies who escorted Samsung Electronic Philippines’ newly appointed president and CEO Hyuck Jae Shim on the way to The Embassy in a limo.

"This phone (D500) sold well in Europe when we launched it there last year and we are confident that we’ll have the same response here in the Philippines. The mobile industry here is very active with 4.5 million (cellphone) units sold last year. This year, Samsung aims for a 20 percent share of that market," enthused Hyuck Jae Shim who flew in last Feb. 9 to head the Samsung office here in the country.

"My vision for Samsung is for us to be the most admired company in the Philippines," he stated.

Joining Mr. Shim were his vice president Maeng Dal Bae, head of Samsung Mobile Annaise Fragante, chief communications country representative Pen Roque, corporate communications head Angie Limbaco and First Asia Mobile (distributor of Samsung Electronics) president Kenny Khoo.

With the introduction of the SGH–D500, Samsung retains its reputation as a top innovator in mobile technology.

"The D500 phone is a cut above the rest because we studied the needs of businessmen and incorporated all features possible to satisfy these needs, paired with an ultra chic exterior," declared Samsung VP Maeng Dal Bae.

TFT color screens, soft–touch slide–up mechanism, built–in megapixel digital cameras, intenna (or built in antenna) technology are just some of the novel ideas that Samsung introduced in the local mobile market.

Imagine all of these features in one phone and you have the SGH–D500, a multi–tasking, multi-purpose megapixel camera created
