Eric Quizon dreams the Hollywood Dream

If you wish to know what Filipino actor will break into mainstream Hollywood, don’t miss to watch "Hollywood Dream" which ABC 5 will soon air.

Conceptualized and produced by Romeo Joven, "Hollywood Dream is a reality-based star search which will select two winners who will be flown to the United States, become regular members of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and appear in the movie "Wrinkles."

Eric Quizon will host "Hollywood Dream" aside from being the associate director.

Eric said that "Hollywood Dream" will open doors for Filipino actors. It’s every actor’s dream to make it in Hollywood. With a SAG membership, then the Filipino actor will find it easier to break into mainstream Hollywood."

Eric and producer Romeo are hoping that the show will attract a lot of Filipino actors, capable and talented, from the movies, television or from stage, ages 18-45. Casting call for "Hollywood Dream" is scheduled April 16-23 at the ABC studio compound from 9:00 a.m. onwards Applicants must bring headshots, resume and a two-minute monologue of their choice.

Eric said they will choose 12 from the applicants. They will be cast in the 14-week episodes of the show which will air in May. The 12 shall undergo training in all aspects of acting, like drama and comedy. Their performances will supervised by respected judges coming from showbiz.

Different tasks will be given to the selected cast, including a challenging stunt sequence. They will also perform dramatic acting, dancing and singing.

"Of course there are so many talented actors in the US, but it’s a matter of getting a good break," Eric stressed. "We must be sure that whoever wins in the show is really capable and talented enough!"

Why Eric was tapped to host the show, producer Joven said: "Eric is super talented. He is not only a good actor but a good director and producer as well. It’s easy to work with him!"

The movie "Wrinkles" has a role for a Pinoy actor — about a Pinoy who has been living in the US and now comes home to look for his roots. He learns about his roots in a beauty pageant where grandmothers are vying for the title. Dean Cain of "Loi and Clark" and "Ripley’s Believe It or Not" plays the lead role in "Wrinkles."

Hosting is nothing new for Eric. But "Hollywood Dream" excites him since he will be a witness to the unfolding of potential of a Hollywood Filipino star. Despite shuffling from one TV job to another, he accepted "Hollywood Dream" because it doesn’t pose any problem. It runs only for one season.

Eric is in ABS-CBN’s "Quizon Avenue," a comedy show with his father Dolphy and brothers Epi and Vandolph.

Eric has also his own travel show with Epi on RPN 9. And he directs, with Dominic Zapata, "Darna" on GMA-7. Darna, without having flown yet last Thursday, already scored 50% in the survey.

Eric enjoys his craft — acting and directing that he finds no problems in his schedules. He feels fulfilled as an actor, director and host.

With regards to "Darna," he said that it was accidental that he became the director. It was Joel Lamangan who was supposed to direct Darna, but he left. The position was given to Eric. For him, Dominic Zapata was the best choice as co-director because of his experience in special effects for "Mulawin."

"Darna" has a captured market, from "Mulawin."

It appears that Eric is following the footsteps of his father.

"I work hard, but at age 70, I will do it cool," Eric said "It’s difficult to approximate what my father has achieved."

Prizes to be given by "Hollywood Dream" are: The winner will be flown to California and New York with full accommodations and a car service, a part in an upcoming film from As We Can See It Pictures, the SAG membership worth $4,000, acting workshops, auditions, among others.
