Keep on shooting with Canon’s new digital video camcorders

Canon has recently introduced a new range of digital video cameras: the ZR 100, ZR 200, and ZR 300, the Elura 85 and Elura 90, and Optura 50 and Optura 60 offer a variety of features that suit a variety of needs.

Across the entire new range, Canon has made standard its advanced features: high resolution 16:9 widescreen mode, DIGIC DV imaging processor and equipped with genuine Canon optics for zoom magnification, high-resolution images and PictBridge connectivity.

The ZR Series

Taking videos with cameras with advanced features often daunt would be users. Not with Canon's new ZR series, the ZR300, the ZR200 and the ZR100 which follows the popular ZR 80/85/90 series.

On top of the powerful DIGIC DV imaging processor, the new ZR series has Canon optics for zoom magnification of up to 22x for the ZR300 and 20x for the ZR200 and ZR100 respectively. Highly affordable and equipped with high resolution widescreen mode, the ZR series is perfect for consumers who are upgrading to widescreen TVs.

Another highlight is the compelling design and size of these video cameras. Due to the absence of any bulky protrusion, the body appears fluidly elegant and streamlined, resulting to better ergonomics and easy one-handed operation. Done in brushed metal fascia and high-impact silver, they represent Canon's new Stream Design philosophy.

The Elura 85 and 90

The most enticing feature of the Elura 85 and the Elura 90 are its 50-50 share of video-still camera functions via a DIGIC DV imaging processor that uses two processors in one, taking two separate paths to process video and stills.

That's on top of other features such as: a 1.33-megapixel CCD, powerful 20x (for the Elura 85) and 18x optical zoom lens (for the Elura 90), large aperture and aspherical lens that capture every tiny detail and fast moving subjects with startling clarity. Their lenses have been coated to reduce flare and ghosting so you get clear footage even under difficult lighting conditions.

As still cameras, the Elura 85 and 90 are equipped with numerous functions including a built-in flash, while a Drive Mode button activates continuous shooting of still images up to 5 frames/sec or 3 frames/second. Three Auto Focus frames enables creative picture composition options like snapping off-centre subjects. Other camera functions include Auto Exposure Bracketing, Simultaneous Photo Recording and Progressive-Scan Photo system.

Designed with Canon's new Stream Surface philosophy, one gets a highly fluid form factor with continuous, flowing lines from viewfinder to lens. Easy to operate, the Elura 85 and the Elura 90 are perfect for families, frequent travelers, and users upgrading for better image quality and features.

The Optura 50 and 60

Optura 50 and 60 digital video cameras are equipped with Canon's renowned Optical Image Stabilizer technology that helps produce clear and crisp images when shooting both movies and stills during shaky instances - even at 14x optical zoom. This useful function could also be switched on when shooting at high resolution 16:9 mode.

With powerful image quality thanks to its 2.2M CCD, the Optura 50 and 60 are also equipped with RGB Primary Color Filter—making video and footages comparable, if not better, than 3 CCD compact video cameras.

These models inherit the popular Mode Dial found in most Canon Digital Cameras. It has also adopted the 9-point AiAF and offers a choice between Evaluative, Centre-Weighted and Spot Metering. It has a functional key Button found in Canon Digital Cameras that allow for Image Settings of Vivid, Neutral, Low Sharpening, Soft Skin Detail and White Balance Settings of Auto, Daylight, Shade, Cloudy, Tungsten, Fluorescent, Fluorescent H, Custom.
