Wage indicators reviewed
CEBU CITY — The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in Central Visayas has started reviewing economic indicators that will determine whether or not there is a basis to tackle the issue on wage increase. RTWPB Chairman and Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) 7 Director Rodolfo Sabulao said the wage board does not have to wait for a wage increase petition because it can make moves to determine whether or not there is indeed a need to tackle the issue on salary increases. Sabulao said the board is now at a preliminary stage by asking the technical working group of the RTWPB to review economic indicators, including inflation rate, fuel price increase, increases in prices of basic commodities, and impending power hike, in order to assess if there is a need for a wage increase. The technical working group, composed of representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry, National Economic Development Authority, Department of Energy, Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas, employees’ sector, and workers’ sector, is expected to submit the result of the review within this week, said Sabulao. The report will determine whether or not the wage board will start tackling the issue on wage increases. (Mars Mosqueda Jr.)
