CEBU CITY — At least 22 schools in Central Visayas have submitted letters of intent and other requirements to the Region 7 office of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) 7 to enable them to increase their fees for school year 2005-2006.
Thirteen of the 22 schools are based in Cebu.
Last year, 23 colleges and universities, 15 in Cebu, filed petitions to raise tuition.
Except for Cebu Roosevelt Memorial College in Bogo, Cebu and Southwestern University, which are both seeking a 15 percent increase in tuition, all the other 11 colleges and universities in Cebu want to raise their fees by three to 10 percent, CHED 7 record shows.
By June, the Cebu Aeronautical Technical School, College of Technological Sciences, Northeastern Colleges-Danao City, the University of Southern Philippines, University of the Visayas (UV) Main, UV Toledo City and Velez College will be charging their students 10 percent more than last year’s rates.
Of the 13 schools in Cebu, only St. Theresa’s College is intending to charge a three percent increase, which is the lowest.
CHED 7 records also show that the Cebu Doctors College will raise fees for students taking up medicine, increasing the tuition fee to R48,225.52 from R44,653.26 in 2004.
