Love team of the year in ‘Say That You Love Me’

It’s definitely the "love team of the year" that’s the biggest attraction of the forthcoming movie "Say That You Love Me."

Jennylyn Mercado and Mark Herras, who are also real-life sweethearts, will surely provide the much-needed "kilig" factor to the movie. They play Kristine and Stephen, two strangers whose romantic destinies became entwined through a message in a bottle thrown into the sea by a sad little girl (Kristine) 10 years ago. (It reminds us of the beautiful movie "Message in a Bottle.")

The two lovebirds are supported by a stellar cast that includes comedians Bearwin Meily and Tuesday Vargas who will provide the comic relief in the romantic comedy directed by Mac Alejandre.

Scene-stealers Bearwin and Tuesday, who have proven their comic mettle on various TV shows, first worked together in GMA Films’ Valentine offering "Let The Love Begin" which also starred Jennylyn Mercado and Mark Herras. In this movie, Bearwin played Richard Gutierrez’s favorite pedicab driver, Boy Palito, while Tuesday played the "socially aspiring" but lovable classmate of Angel Locsin. So effective were they at providing the laughs that direk Mac had no qualms casting them again in his newest romantic flick "Say That You Love Me." This time, Bearwin plays Mark Herras’ cousin Caloy who owns a coffee shop.

Now, let’s move on to the story of "Say That You Love Me." Stephen is a guy who, whenever he’s near a girl he likes, stutters uncontrollably. Kristine, on the other hand, is Stephen’s opposite. She is a spunky girl, currently unemployed, who’s never had a problem expressing herself and saying what’s on her mind.

Stephen’s family owns and runs a small business. His dad, played by Joel Torre, has never recovered from the depression which gripped him when his wife died, and communicated to his only son using postit notes. Kristine is a product of a broken home, and she is out to prove to her parents that she’s responsible and smart enough to land a good job.

One night, Stephen rushes through traffic to propose to her current crush (Megan Young), but the car he’s driving crashes into Kristine, who is riding her scooter to a meeting where she has been promised a job. Stephen is forced to bring Kristine to the hospital to have her cuts and bruises treated. Kristine’s accident and hospital detour resulted in Stephen’s crush saying "yes" to another suitor, and Kristine not getting the job she was promised. The two blame each other for their respective bad luck.

Later, Kristine runs into Stephen again and forces him to pay for her joblessness. Stephen tells her she can help her find a job, on the condition that she allow him to take her to a salon for a make-over. He tells her she needs to be presentable and being attractive is the first step to finding a good job. Kristine agrees.

Stephen becomes tongue-tied when he sees Kristine after the make-over. Kristine, who by this time has noticed Stephen’s habit of stammering in the presence of pretty girls, tells Stephen that she will repay him for what he did for her by teaching him how to be self-confident, especially around the ladies.

But after spending time together, the inevitable happens—Stephen and Kristine begin to fall in love.

We’ll find out how everything unfolds soon as the movie hits the screens.

Bettina Carlos to host Nick’s

Kids Choice Awards today

Young actress Bettina Carlos of GMA-7 will host today’s Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards at the NBC Tent at The Fort. For having been chosen for the job, Bettina indeed feels proud and honored; after all the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards is like the Oscar Awards for kids in the US.

Bettina was chosen by the Nickelodeon bigwigs because they believed she serves as a very good role model for the youth. Bettina was an honor student at UP Integrated High School and is an incoming freshman scholar at the Ateneo de Manila Unviersity.

Bettina met with the big bosses of Nickelodeon AsiaPacific in Singapore a few weeks ago. Garry Sinclair, senior director, creative and show development; Ms. Syahrizan Mansor, director, programming; and Ms. Myra Monozca, director, marketing and communications were so impressed by Bettina’s smartness, beauty and grace that they did not have second thoughts in assigning her the hosting job.

Last year, Nickelodeon execs came to the Philippines for a very special project for kids in Iloilo. They invited some performers from local showbiz and Bettina was one of them. They saw great potential in her so they checked her background and then decided to meet with her for the hosting job of Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards.

Bettina’s co-host is Hollywood actor Ben Stiller. Last year, Cameron Diaz and Mike Myers were the hosts of the prestigious annual Nickelodeon event.
