Phytomer, founded in 1971 in Saint Malo, France, is known worldwide as one of the pioneers of marine cosmetology, harnessing the secrets of the sea to create quality skin care products for both men and women. The philosophy that drives the brand is one that works with nature instead of against it. Although it is a relatively young brand, "the first step in luxury skin care," according to My Beauty Hub’s retail manager Sigrid Villamil, Phytomer can boast of a wide range of products and individualized treatments that are all natural and easily accepted by our skin. Among their face care range, there are six different lines, specialized for various types of skin.
PRE-CONSULTATION
Although there was not much in way of a pre-facial consultation, the beauty consultant explained that the facial to be given was most suited to my skin type, which clearly is oily. Explanations about each treatment were delivered post-facial, but she did not fail to answer any questions that arose during the treatment.
THE FACIAL
The Phytomer Purifying facial is especially suited for oily skin. It began with a relaxing full back rubdown complete with Phytomer Massage oils.This was followed by a strip of Self-Heating Mud that remained throughout the facial to detoxify the body. Phytomer’s Gentle Cleansing Milk and Rose Visage toner, good for all skin types, were used to prep the skin before the application of the treatment masks. For this specific facial, Phytomer’s Vegetal Exfoliant was followed by their Purifying Mask. These masks vary depending on the type of skin and the type of facial you signed up for, from sensitive skin to aging skin.
LENGTH OF TREATMENT
Treatments usually last for an hour to an hour and a half.
AMBIENCE AND SERVICE
The treatment room, decorated in rich, dark colors, is spacious and well-equipped with adjustable lights. Privacy is promised with a frosted glass door and a heavy curtain. However, even though music is filtered in through a ceiling speaker, the noise from the store cannot be completely blocked out. Being the only treatment room in the My Beauty Hub Store has its benefits, although be prepared to witness the mixing and washing that goes on with each treatment. The service, on the other hand, is nothing but friendly and attentive from the moment you enter the store to the time you leave.
IS IT GOOD?
The moisturizer left my skin soft, with minimal redness from the treatment products. The effects lasted until the next few days, leaving my skin noticeably less oily. Although be sure to follow with moisturizer after cleansing or your skin will get tight and a little painful. Would I recommend it? A wholehearted yes! Although the prices may seem steep to promise regularity, the service and the products make the trip well worth it.
