TODAY is the 195th anniversary of Argentina’s 1810 May Revolution. Argentina is a federal republic headed by a President, assisted by a Council of Ministers. Legislative powers are vested in a National Congress consisting of a Senate and a Chamber of Deputies. Argentina is a member of the United Nations and the Organization of American States (OAS).
Argentina’s population is around 36 million, with 85 percent of European origin, mostly Spanish and Italian. More than 90 percent are Roman Catholics. The country has a well-educated work/force with a literacy of about 96 percent.
Similarities in culture, religion, and history have brought the Philippines and Argentina close to each other. Their peoples share the same passionate temperament and religiosity, as well as fierce commitment to freedom and human rights.
Last February, the Philippines and Argentina signed a Protocol on the Establishment of a Bilateral Consultation Mechanism. The Protocol provides the mechanism for holding regular consultations between the two countries to further enhance relations and exchange views on important bilateral and international concerns. It includes a review of all aspects of relationship between the Philippines and Argentina in the political, economic, commercial, investment, tourism, financial, industrial, scientific, cultural, educational, social, sports, and technological fields.
We congratulate the people and government of Argentina, and its Embassy in the Philippines, headed by H.E., Ambassador Mario Schuff, on the occasion of their National Day.
