STA. ROSA CITY, Laguna — A city judge and the top two municipal officials here have received death threats from a group believed to be responsible for the assassination of City Mayor Leon Arcillas, police authorities said yesterday.
Senior Supt. Federico Terte, Laguna police director, said the threats appeared to be real, prompting him to detail two policemen each to Mayor Joey Catindig, Arcillas’ daughter Vice Mayor Arlene Arcillas, and Judge Teodoro Solis.
Following Arcillas death, then vice mayor Catindig was sworn into office as city mayor, the post vacated by Arcillas.
In her capacity as the No. 1 city councilor, Arlene Arcillas assumed the vice mayoralty post.
Terte, who heads the Special Task Group Arcillas which is investigating the Arcillas killing last May 10, said the death threats were similar to those received by Arcillas shortly before he was killed. (Louwi Pones)
