Blog-o-Rama
Let’s hear it from our readers

This week, we are taking a break from featuring prolific bloggers and will put the spotlight instead on our dear Blog-O-Rama readers who have written us to inquire and drop a kind word or two about the work we are doing here. It is amazing to note how diverse the people interested in blogging are. They include not only today’s youth but people in their 40’s and 60’s who want to be up-to-date with this latest technology. This only validates our observation that blogging is one of the most liberating forces to hit the Internet since its inception. This is because it chooses no age, country or sex. Suddenly, publishing is not only limited to the so-called mainstream media but to members of the general populace who have the ability to express what they feel in writing. All that you need is a dose of creativity, some basic understanding of HTML, decent grammar, your own special writing style and then you are ready to blog away…

From  Gloria Valdepena (g_miresa@yahoo.com) - I am Gloria Valdepena, 27 and a resident of Quezon City. I am currently enrolled in a computer crash course this summer. I've read an article you wrote, but unfortunately since I just picked that piece of newspaper that was nakakalat, and right now I'm not at home, I couldn't remember the date. I'ts about blogging. Actually, I often heard that word nowadays and I have already an idea. Your article helped me understand more the reason why such sites as friendster.com exist. Know what? I'm a member of the said site but I'm still a newbie when it comes to computer vocabulary. And so I am going to look for the sites that you had given as an example. Hope I'll learn more.

I don't read newspaper on a regular basis and so I couldn't promise that I'll watch out for your coming article. But you really help. It's so nice to read an article of that kind again. Anyways, thanks. God Bless.

From Marcelo T. Balolong III (docmars@yahoo.com) - Hi. Read your article this morning. Please tell me what basically is a blog. How do I start one? Sorry, really have no idea. Thanks.

From Bert (Icunotyet@aol.com) - I am a 67 year old grandfather of 3. Can you give me a helping hand to get my feet wet in blogging? I've been reading your blog and others within your group and I am enjoying every minute of it.

From Ciprinilo C. Meneses (ccmeneses@meralco.com.ph) - Hi Annalyn, Can I call you by your first name? Anyway, I'm much older than you. I just want to say that your articles turned me into a blogger (just recently).  Although I've long heard and read about blogs (even before it became famous in last year's US election), I never tried it then, thinking I'm too old for that stuff. But after reading your articles, I finally found enough "courage" to try blogging myself.

Well, I guess I should tell you that the reason I tried blogging is not to be read by other people, but simply to find new acquaintances, and hopefully, make new friends. Well, I just want to say thank you.

From gavhew@bigpond.com – Hi. My name is Lida Hewitt .I am very interested in blogs and get paid for it .Can you please tell me more about it?  Where do I start?    I live in Western Australia.

From R.C. Darang (baruchzorotski@yahoo.com) - Ate Annalyn!  How is it going? Well, I've read some of your articles in your column in MB, Blog-O-Rama.  Especially your article about the first Pinoy Blogger who has been blogging since 1996 (we have the same age).  That really is very interesting. Keep it up.  Well, to share to you Ate my blogging experience, I got started October just last year.  I'm into 'writing' it really is my passion but I've never had an experience of being one of the writers in our school publications .So I just project this humble talent of mine through 'blogging.'  I really thank the genius people who innovated it all in the Net for somehow alleviating my frustration of not being a writer in a school paper. But it's okay since I've already been a writer in my own little way.Armed  with a very few friends, I've persuaded  them to read my 'funny' articles. But that's not the only reason why I've been blogging.  Another reason is that I got "rejected" by my 'first-ever and true love' but nobody's home for me to have an 'outlet' for my battered emotions at that time.  So, I decided and convinced myself finally to write that painful experience through blogging.  And the blogging saga continues, not only did I learn to write about my ‘underground’ experiences but also I learn to make websites and a little templating.  It's quite ironic 'cause despite my blogging intensity, I've only 2 real friends who blog and constantly read my entries at the same time. I'm an incoming junior Accounting student in UST and therefore my friends are interested only in analytical calculations, not writing.  So I'll definitely have a hard time persuading them all to blog and as a result I have a little loyal readers. And ironically too, I'm a very very straight male hehe which is uncommon for our species to write 'cause girls have been more expressive than us.  More power Ate and I hope I get you somehow entertained.  And entertain yourself through this blog of mine at: http://rcdarang.tk ;)

From ronaldlora@excite.com - Hi Annalyn. I enjoy every blog stories you feature including the Q and A articles of Sassy Lawyer and Abe Olandres. I myself am excited to start my own blog because  I have my own stories to share although I hope being a prepaid internet user will not be a limitation.
I wrote you because I would like to inquire about web hosting. I am very much interested to host a support group that caters to disabled people like me. I have been a paraplegic almost 3 years ago and I would like to exchange and hear stories from other people too in the same situation.

Hopefully, it can also be a source to inspire others that life remains beautiful even in the face of our disability. Thanks a lot.

From annalyn.jusay@gmail.com  - Thank you all for writing. It is so nice to hear from you all. We would like to congratulate those who have been inspired to blog as a result of this column and the inspiration that our featured bloggers bring them. For those have yet to begin blogging, I have written an article on “Getting Started With Blogging “ in our March 21 issue. We recommend to newbies that if you are not yet ready to gamble on paying a webhost or a web designer, then there are lots of free blogging services to choose from. These include Blogger, Blogdrive, and MSN’s spaces.com, for example. It is also worthwhile to research all you can about the subject. Just type “blogging tutorial” on the Search button and it will lead you to an array of sites which will make your blogging experience easier. Of late, we have discovered http://weblogs.about.com and it is a comprehensive resource guide which answers all your web logs FAQs and how-to’s.

Like any other endeavor , earning money from blogging takes a lot of hard work. It also needs lots of creativity on your part, loads of loyal readers and the unique ability to capture their imagination. Right now, most blog revenues are sourced from Google’s AdSense program. We wish we knew the secrets of the so-called top-earning bloggers but most of us just blog as a labor of love and the opportunity it provides for us to network and be friends with like-minded people on the web.
As for your other questions, I will try to answer your emails individually, if time permits. God bless.
