BOAC Marinduque — The Marinduque provincial government revealed yesterday the construction of a
R25-million hospital that will be the extension of the old and small hospital here, a project of President Arroyo, Marinduque Representative Edmund Reyes, and Marinduque Governor Carmencita Reyes.
Gov. Reyes said the project was approved by the President upon the request of Rep. Reyes when the Chief Executive was the guest speaker during the commemoration of the "Battle of Pulang Lupa" here a couple of years ago.
She said the Department of Health (DoH) drafted the project’s
R10-million plan and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) initially released R7.5 million for the project. The amount, Gov. Reyes said, was used for the construction of concrete posts.
The Marinduque provincial government, as its implementor, provided support on machines and equipment, manpower, and gravel and sand. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Marinqudue supervised the construction.
Reyes said they might avail of an additional P
7.5 million for the hospital’s concrete floor.
Meanwhile, Gov. Reyes announced her retirement from politics. She is now on her third term as Marinduque governor.
Gov. Reyes said her son, Rep. Reyes, might run for governor in the 2007 elections, adding that, Gina, her daughter, may vie as Marinduque representative.
The Reyeses are considered the longest reigning political leaders in Marinduque since the lady governor first became an assemblywoman, representative, and governor, with a total of 30 uninterrupted years of service. (Daniel N. Mangaba)
Tourism director injured
A tourism director of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) was seriously injured when her vehicle figured in an accident during a heavy downpour in Santiago, Ilocos Sur over the weekend.
Reports identified the victim as Purificacion Molintas, CAR tourism director and a resident of Marcos Highway, Baguio City.
Reports reaching Camp Crame in Quezon City said that Molintas was on board a Toyota Tamaraw FX when its driver, a certain Picat Elorde, a resident of La Trinidad, Benguet, lost control of the vehicle that rammed a bamboo groove along the national highway in Barangay Bobulala, Santiago, Ilocos Sur at 1:27 p.m. Saturday.
Investigators said Elorde was driving the Toyota Tamaraw FX with license plates WDV-989 when the vehicle swerved after avoiding a flooded area along the national highway.
The vehicle rammed into a cluster of bamboo trees along the road.
Based on a medical report obtained by police, Molintas sustained several fractures, a right clavicular laceration of tongue, and contusion hematoma as a result of the impact. (Aris R. Ilagan)
New Ilocos Sur police chief
CAMP PRESIDENT ELPIDIO QUIRINO, Bulag, Bantay, Ilocos Sur — Senior Superintendent George Regis is the new Ilocos Sur police director, vice Superintendent Crispin Agno.
Regis is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA). Agno held the position for only four months.
Regis thanked Ilocos Sur Governor Luis "Chavit" Singson for the opportunity to serve the people of Ilocos Sur. Aside from Singson, several Ilocos Sur mayors recommended Regis for the position.
Before his appointment, Regis was the regional officer of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Region 1 (Ilocos). As CIDG regional officer, he was able to neutralize several criminal syndicates, top drug pushers, and other lawless elements.
Regis was supposed to take over as Ilocos Sur police director in February after Singson accepted his appointment but this was delayed. (Mar T. Supnad)
Honest store staff cited
A man who left his bag containing cash and checks amounting to almost
R300,000 at the Harvey’s Fastfood branch in Valenzuela City last July 1 yesterday thanked the store’s honest staff for its immediate return.
Samuel Tan Adano of Karuhatan, Valenzuela City left his money bag at Harvey’s Fastfood located at the Puregold Shopping Center Valenzuela at 10 a.m. but recovered it at 3 p.m. the same day.
Adano’s bag contained
R142,600 in cash and R152,736 in endorsed checks.
He thanked Harvey’s Fastfood staff and store manager Edelwin Martinez for helping him retrieve his money bag. Harvey’s is owned and operated by Pure Value Foods Inc., which also manages Puregold Inc.
"I am truly thankful to the staff of Harvey’s Valenzuela for exemplifying honesty which is rarely demonstrated nowadays because of our economic difficulties," said Adano.
