La Salle squads notch first wins in WNCAA

   

A NUMBER of teams emerged as first-time winners Sunday in the WNCAA 36th season basketball and volleyball tournaments at separate venues.

Last season’s senior volleyball runner-up College of St. Benilde led the list with a 25-21, 25-20, 14-25, 25-16 victory over World Citi Colleges at the RTU gym. The Lady Blazers improved to 1-2.

San Beda College Alabang made it 1-3 when it downed La Consolacion College, 25-12, 25-22, 25-18.

La Salle College Antipolo, likewise, notched its first win in three starts after stopping St. Stephen’s High School, 25-20, 25-19, 7-25, 25-17, in the junior division played at the St. Scho gym.

The SSHS midget squad avenged the loss with a 20-25, 25-13, 25-21 victory over LSCA’s sister school De La Salle Zobel for a 1-2 slate.

In senior basketball at the EAC gym, University of Asia and the Pacific defeated Siena College, 58-24 as it finally prevailed after three tries.

The WNCAA 36th season is being supported by adidas, Penshoppe, Mikasa, Molten, Cherifer vitamin, Rio 106.7 and ABC 5.

Host Emilio Aguinaldo College Manila, meanwhile, continues to lord it over in senior volleyball, with Centro Escolar University as its latest victim, 25-14, 25-18, 25-17.

The EAC Generals lead the field at 4-0.

A game behind at 3-0 is defending champion Lyceum of the Philippines, which put one over Rizal Technological University, 25-23, 25-12, 25-21.

Showing the way at 3-0 in the junior level are defending champion Miriam College, a 25-13, 25-16, 25-22 winner over St. Scholastica’s College; DLSZ which defeated Angelicum College, 25-6, 25-19, 25-9; and SBCA which recorded a 25-18, 25-20, 23-25, 25-20 decision over RTU.

SBCA paces the midget field at 3-0, its latest win made at the expense of LSCA, 25-13, 28-26.

Lyceum and SBCA, both toting 4-0 cards, are tied for the senior basketball lead after winning over RTU, 58-42, and EAC, 545, respectively.
