In the early 1950s, University of the East founding president Dr. Francisco Dalupan acquired 55,670 square meters of land in Caloocan—bounded on one side by UE Tech Avenue, University Hills Subdivision, and on the other side by Sangandaan. This parcel of land acquired from the Tuason family was part of what used to be the Buayas Golf and Country Club. In line with the government’s policy on the "planned growth of the student population in Metro Manila," president Dalupan set up the UE Technical School on the site, which opened in June 1954 under the administration of Director Gerardo Abanilla.

A major information technology and networking facility has been in place since December 2003 in the University of the East– Caloocan: a Gigabit Ethernet system, whose main distribution frame is installed at the Tan Yan Kee Academic Building.

The University of the Philippines Manila Chorale (UPMC) was established in 1992 by Behavioral Studies students. Comparatively younger than the neighboring university choirs in the UP system, UPMC has done numerous feats, like winning in several local competitions, and in international competitions as well in 1998 in the 3rd International Salzkammergut Choral Competition.
