First int’l vermi symposium slated in Los Baños

   

A world renowned earthworm specialist, Dr. Clive Edwards of the Ohio State University, will deliver the keynote address at the International Symposium-Workshop on Vermi Technologies for Developing Countries to be held Nov. 16 to 18 in Los Baños, Laguna.

The event which will be convened at the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development (PCAMRD) is co-organized by PCAMRD, Soil Ecology Laboratory of Ohio State University, and the Philippine Vermi Society. It is also sponsored by The Worm Man, Country Bank, National Academy of Science and Technology, and Croplife Philippines.

The event, which is the first ever international symposium-workshop on vermi (earthworm) technologies, will bring together researchers and industry stakeholders from many regions of the world to assess the current status and prospects of vermi technologies for developing countries such as the Philippines.

OTHER LIVELIHOOD SEMINARS. Meanwhile, a seminar on crab culture will be conducted this afternoon, 1 to 5 p.m., by Pol Rubia at the AANI Seminar Center at the FTI Complex, Taguig, Metro Manila.

Another AANI livelihood seminar is How to Grow Tissue-cultured Lakatan Banana to be conducted by Olivia Damasco of UP Los Baños in the morning of next Saturday, October 8. On the other hand, Dr. Emilio Cruz of the Central Luzon State University will conduct a seminar on goat raising in the afternoon.

On October 15, Luis Lina will conduct a seminar on Pinoy Entrepreneurship in the morning while Gil Carandang will conduct a seminar on mushroom production in the afternoon.
