Maestro Ryan plays beautiful music with Ballet Philippines

The endearing music of renowned musical director and Gawad CCP awardee Ryan Cayabyab provides a wonderful backdrop as Ballet Philippines brings to life Cayabyab’s bestseller "Great Filipino Love Songs" on Oct. 14, 15 and 16 at the CCP Main Theater in a production entitled "Da Capo #1: Playing Maestro Ryan Atbp."

Cayabyab’s stirring arrangements of some of the most well–loved Filipino love songs and other musical pieces will be interpreted in dance from by Ballet Philippines choreographers led by artistic director Bam Damian, associate artistic director Alden Lugnasin, guest choreographer Tony Fabella and Ballet Philippines’ very own Irish Abejero, Novy Bereber and Christine Cramé.

Damian who came back to the country after a successful two decade career as a principal dancer in Europe will showcase his choreography of "Hindi Kita Malimot," Minamahal, Sinasamba" and "Saan Ka Man Naroon."

"Hindi Kita Malimot" is an all-female piece with dancers in pointe shoes and jeans. The Brazilian Bossanova sensuality is the centerpiece of "Minamahal, Sinasamba" while "Saan Ka Man Naroon" is a solo piece in the manner of Tanz Theater, a fusion of movement and acting. It tells of a woman who loses her mind from the pain and loss of being jilted.

Lugnasin will present his interpretations of the songs "Sarungbanggi" and "Lahat ng Araw" while multi–awarded artist Fabella will again regale the audience with his intricate choreography of "Maalaala Mo Kaya" and "Katakataka."

The other pieces in the repertoire are "Hampang Ta," "Golpiadu," "Maglalatik," "Taong Talangka," "Sarumbanggi" and "Tambol at Padyak," the full version.

"Playing Maestro Ryan Atbp" is presented by the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Ballet Philippines and Philip Morris Philippines. For more information on tickets and performance schedules, call 832–6011.
