The NOKIA N70

One of the three newborns in the Nokia family of N series phones has the tag line Slide, Shoot and Share photos. As phenomenal as a tropical storm, the Nokia N70 never fails to release a strong surge of digital adrenaline to any one who lays hands on it.

The Nokia N70
The Nokia N70’s strength lies in the mobile phone’s ability to shoot oh-so-clear pictures.  I am really super enthusiastic about it!  Do you want to me to describe how clear these pictures are in terms of numbers?

Well, I get 176 x 208-sized pictures, with 262,144 colors, and the N70 camera is a 2 mega pixel unit.  And I like the way the camera works automatically when all I have to do is slide open the camera cover at the phone’s rear to take pictures.

This feature is very convenient for me while I was reading an SMS message while walking inside a mall when I suddenly saw RTW displays that I knew would be useful for our corporate image benchmarking.  Of course, I did not want to disturb the sales persons and clients of the said store so I just kept walking and took the needed pictures with the phone’s camera.

If you choose to shoot subjects in motion, it won’t be a problem because the Nokia N70 allows you to shoot sequences of up to 6 consecutive shots.

You can also create your own short movie using this phone.  This feature is far and away my favorite!  I simply selected my most wanted images and video files, and added pre-installed music and effects and I was in movie heaven.  It was a blast to see my own 15 second-MTV in the Nokia N70.

With the Nokia N70, photography became my new hobby given the phone’s wide range of image set up options.  Whether taking portraits, landscapes, sporting activities, or even taking shots via night mode, all pictures and videos produced are extremely impressive.  Don’t fret about distant subjects because you can surely see these with the phone’s 20x zoom capability.

Have I mentioned that N70 has 2 ‘eyes’ (cameras)?  I can capture pictures and scenes using the second camera located at the upper right hand corner of the phone.  This feature also allows me to discreetly check out my appearance.

Pictures and videos taken with the Nokia N70 can be shared with the use of Bluetooth or a multi media card.  The phone also features XpressTransfer, XpressPrint and Image Store facilities.  You can access your mobile phone’s gallery and even all of the phone’s contents by installing the PC Suite.

You can also synchronize data in your Nokia N70 while using your PC.  It’s easy and there’s no need to be intimidated.  Select the language option and you will Filipino among the choices.  You can also share pictures using the Lifeblog feature of the Nokia N70; but I guess this feature will have to wait until our mobile phone service providers offer it.  And it is ridiculously easy to print pictures stored in the N70.  This can be done by just connecting your phone to a compatible printer.

Tired of practicing your photography skills?  The Nokia N70 can keep you company with music.  The FM radio was accommodating enough to keep me company while I was exercising.  It can play in loudspeaker mode but it needs an earphone attached to it.  The N70’s audio quality is superb and listening to music stored in it was like listening to a high-end speaker.  The phone, by the way, can play MP3 files without having to plug in an earphone.

It is easy to dismiss the N70 as just a high performance multi-media gadget, but really it is more than that.  Nokia took great pains to improve the communications quality of the N70 and the results are truly spectacular.  Rather than overwhelm you with needless descriptions, it is sufficient to say that the N70 comes very close to being the ultimate, mobile communications device (and yes, I am being very conservative).

The N70 does have some disadvantages.  It is a big and bulky phone, especially for those with small hands, but hey, with this phone you won’t have to bring your other gadgets along.  With the N70 you can now leave your digital camera and MP3 player at home.

Aside from that, when Nokia N70 hits the shops, I believe that only the upper class consumers will be able to purchase this gizmo.  But knowing us Filipinos and our love for things that are stunning like the N70, I’m sure this phone from Nokia is destined for success.
