Can you believe it’s October? You may be putting it off but Christmas shopping is inevitable. Filipinos are very selfless and giving people in general. To be able to buy all their loved ones just the right presents they would deny themselves some essentials just so their budget will accommodate everyone they deem important to them. In consequence, a lot don’t exactly look their best during the holidays. Let me help you with that. I have explored the grocery, drugstores and beauty section of department stores to find quality products at pocket-friendly prices. Here are some that may help you stay beautiful without leaving holes in your pockets. You may even choose to practice them way after the holiday’s are over for bigger savings.
JERGENS SKIN SMOOTHING LOTION WITH AHA AND BHA - Not only does this penetrate the toughest of dry skin like the heels, knees and elbows but it also removes the dry flaky and scaly skin on the legs, feet, arms and hands which have very little oil glands. As a daily habit this prevents ingrown hair on areas that were waxed or shaved because it dissolves the glue like substance that hold together dead skin so pore opening will not be blocked. Apply on legs, bikini area and underarms if you shave or wax these areas.
ELLIPS LIGHT BODY OIL - This has three variants to choose from and costs as low as Php60 for the 50 ml and about Php120 for the 100 ml. It is handy to use after a shower to seal moisture in so you don’t have to worry about dry itchy skin the whole day. Although some still prefer the imported counterpart, this will do in stretching your budget for the holidays.
BLISTEX LIPTONE SPF 15 LIP BALM – Those who are in the nude lipstick craze would appreciate that this looks like ones enhanced lip color. Not only that it protects your lips from the harmful rays of the sun with SPF 15 and since it’s a lip balm chapped lips is not an issue. The finish is like satiny matte lipstick so greasiness is not an issue either. This costs about Php160.
BENCH BODY SPRAY IN GREEN TEA GRAPEFRUIT CEDAR - I actually smelled this on a friend who is somewhat of a perfume connoisseur. I thought it was a new European blend like Decleor or Caudalie due to that fresh and aromatherapeutic undertones. I was surprised when she showed me the bottle. It is so cheap you can spray it on all day. Works as a unisex cologne as well.
POWDERED MILK - The face exfoliate that is gentle for daily use. Milk contains lactic acid which is a form of Alpha Hydroxy Acid. Like I mentioned above AHA dissolves the glue like substance that stubbornly hold dead skin together thus blocking your pores leading to blemishes or leaving your complexion looking dull. Wet face then rub on a teaspoonful on face and neck. Please don’t go non fat or low fat. This is the only time you need not worry about calories. The fat on the milk will hydrate the skin leaving you with that glow. You may use straight or after rinsing off your facial cleanser. This will serve as your toner and treatment as well. You may apply your other treatments over it such as moisturizer, anti-acne medication or sunblock.
POND’S WHITE BEAUTY SKIN WHITENING VITAMIN CREAM - makes a great foundation primer. Covers tiny imperfections and evens out skin tone while leaving a matte finish. For those with relatively great skin tone and clarity this may take the place of your foundation. I would still prefer it though if you had sunblock underneath or would use a pressed powder with SPF of at least 15 on top.
IODIZED SALT – Mixed with liquid soap makes a great exfoliating shower gel. Some prefer rock salt for more scrubbing power. If you mix this with oil it can be a great spa like salt scrub. See the sugar category for instructions on how to use.
SUGAR - Mixed with olive oil, vegetable oil or extra virgin coconut oil makes a great body scrub that is comparable to those of expensive spas. As you step into the shower apply with dry hands on dry skin then rub on evenly on torso and limbs to slough off dead skin cells that cause the surface of your skin to look dull, flaky and dry. Then follow with shower gel to rinse off excess oil. If you apply it after shower gel you will be left greasy and you will melt the sugar so exfoliation will be cancelled.
