PSICOM Publishing, Inc., publisher of the country’s best-selling "True Philippine Ghost Stories" book series, and National Book Store now welcome entries to this month’s ghost story writing and cover artwork design contests.
The contest is open to all Filipinos, at least 13 years of age, with interesting Filipino ghost stories and drawing talents to share.
"The success of our series of True Philippine Ghost Stories, all 13 of them, had been nothing but phenomenal," said Arnel Gabriel, president and chief executive officer of PSICOM Publishing, Inc. "This contest is our way of expressing our gratitude to those who have enjoyed our books and to provide the talented ones out there a guaranteed chance to get their works published and distributed at all National Bookstore outlets," Gabriel added.
Entries for the story writing contest must be no more than 2,000 words in length, written in either English or Tagalog, and submitted in either manuscript or digital format. Judging will be as follows: originality — 40 percent, creativity (scare factor) — 40 percent and grammar and spelling — 20 percent.
Entries for the cover artwork design should follow the theme of the book "Haunted Philippines", composed on any medium, and the size is standard short bond paper or 8.5 inches x 11 inches. Entries will be judged as follows: originality — 50 percent, and creativity or scare factor — 50 percent.
The first prize for each of the contest is
R5,000 cash, second prize is R3,000 cash and the third is R2,000 cash.
Entries are accepted at the Customer Service Desks of all National Bookstore outlets or at PSICOM Publishing, Inc. located at 6 Yale St. Cubao, Quezon City. Deadline for submission is on October 31, 2005. Mailed entries received on or before November 7, 2005 will still be accepted. Entries should indicate the author’s name, signature, home address and contact numbers.
