Fuel depot relocation pushed

Congressmen representing the Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino yesterday pushed for the swift approval of a bill seeking the relocation of fuel depot and banning establishment of similar structures near highly populated communities.

Reps. Antonino C. Alvarez (Palawan) and Luis Bersamin (Abra) said the immediate enactment of the measure has become necessary in the wake of a renewed threat to the country by international terror groups.

Bersamin stressed that precautionary measures against terrorist attacks should now be reviewed and implemented immediately.

He urged the legislative-executive advisory council to conduct the study and agree to certify such measures as urgent administration bills.

"The bill proposed by Congressman Alvarez should be given immediate attention. It is dreadful to even imagine the catastrophic effects of a fuel depot exploding in a populous community, whether by design or by accident," Bersamin said. (Ben R. Rosario)
