That’s because Joseph Yeo and eight other Archers are set to share the limelight with other big guns when the 24th season of the country’s premier basketball league unwraps on Oct. 29.
Yeo, undeniably one of the finest collegiate players today with his wide array of electrifying moves, was drafted by Harbour Centre during the dispersal draft last Thursday, making the Port Masters one of the teams to watch in the season-opening tournament.
Jun-Jun Cabatu, the hardworking center of the Taft-based squad, was also drafted in the first round and is set to play for Welcoat Paints along with La Salle teammates TY Tang and Pocholo Villanueva.
Also plucked out from the ICTSI-La Salle squad, which took an extended leave from the league, were Ryan Araña, Rico Maierhofer, JV Casio, PJ Walsham and Mark Benitez.
Far Eastern Insurance, which earned the right to pick first for being the newest addition to the PBL family, took San Beda’s prolific forward Yousif Al Jamal to boost its frontcourt rotation.
The Insurers, which will be handled by the youthful Bong dela Cruz, also drafted Nanin Epondulan from Bacchus Energy Drink and Maierhoffer.
Araña and the 6-foot-5 Benitez were taken by Hapee Toothpaste which is eyeing a grand comeback after taking a leave of absence for two conferences. It also acquired Jerome Paterno from San Beda.
The Port Masters, which will now be handled by University of the East mentor Dindo Pumaren, also added Casio and Walsham to their squad.
Magnolia Dairy Ice Cream secured the services of San Beda’s Jeff Bombeo and Angeles, and Wynsjohn Te. Franklin Nailon, Nat Cruz and Kenneth Coyukang — all from Bacchus — went to Granny Goose Tortillos, Montana Pawnshop and Toyota Otis-Letran, respectively.
All La Salle players, except for Yeo and Benitez, will have to return to their mother team once ICTSI decides to participate in the league again.
